All For The Love of The Run
There is a nagging ringing noise slowly droning on and on in the background until I’m suddenly ripped away from a dream and slammed back to my reality— the daily hustle and bustle of life. It is a bright and early Monday morning; indicating that the week has just begun. Sun rays are just piercing the sky when I’m tying my shoelaces, setting up my GPS watch, tightening my pony, and bounding out my front door dedicated to getting my run in before the heat from the sun starts to bear down on my back. Before I know it my feet are slapping the concrete in a harmonious rhythm and I am racing past cars, dancing around street puddles, and sprinting around corners to the beat of my own two feet. My muscles start aching and I am gasping for air as my watch beeps indicating that I’ve reached mile five. The initial thoughts that usually run through my mind at this time are, “Why am I even doing this?” “What’s the point? I’m not getting any better than I was yesterday?” However, I know that I must push these thoughts to the back of my mind because I know the true answer: It is all for the love of the run. What keeps me going is knowing that I love the sport and I couldn’t live without getting my daily run in!

Go through the bs, in order to get through the bs
People always say that if you don't like being around people, such as relatives, friends, a boss, co-workers; or even places like a hectic ass, vermin infested, people shoving city like New York- take them out of your life or leave. However, if you're always running away from whatever you do not like, how can YOU find out what you're made of? Listen, I'm all for avoiding conflict when absolutely necessary but there is such a thing as running away from Every. Damn. Thing.

Know your worth as a young leader
When I got my feet under the desk in my first management job, I quite often found myself wondering if I am well placed to put my opinion forward in major discussions given the people I’m surrounded by have many more years’ experience and knowledge under their belts. These thoughts then turn into, if I ask questions or ask for guidance, am I proving to people that I am too young for this role? I would also wonder, if I put my opinion forward are people even going to listen to anything I have to say because of my age and are they going to take me seriously? I am now managing a national evidenced based program to raise awareness on dementia and create social change for people living with a diagnosis of dementia, their loved ones and the wider community.

Dreams Deferred
What Happens To A Dream Deferred? My grandmother on my father’s side always dreamed of seeing the Eiffel Tower. She always dreamed leaving her Homeland of Haiti-just for a week or so to go straight to Paris to see the Eiffel Tower. Raised under the strictest patriarchy rules, she was never allowed to travel without the presence of a man. Her first husband- the womanizer- never acknowledged what she wanted and her second husband-the wife beater-was too cruel to take her. When her second husband passed away and she decided she could go on her own “when the time was right,” she began getting these cloudy spots in her right eye. Merde. She murmured when those cloudy spots turned into blurred and impaired vision. She had developed glaucoma, and would never see anything clearly again, let alone the Eiffel Tower.

Rise Above
Too often, society tells us how we should think, feel, look & dress. Attempting to define our lives behind the covers of magazines and television screens. Too thin, too fat, too loud or laid back. Can't discipline your children without fear of outside involvement. Life filled with problems yet few resources to solve them. Listening ears attached to running mouths. Holding it all in just wanting to a way out. Many claim they'll be by your side, but everytime you look around it's not enough to count. Wearing many hats, playing many roles, filling many voids. Being everything for everyone except for the one who matters most. Yourself. How can you give 100% when you lack? It's impossible to give what you don't possess. Spreading yourself too thin leaves no room for your best. Home, work, family, friends. Always someting that needs to be done, but no idea where to begin. Take a step back, breathe and relax. Ain't got time no waste. Can't afford to get off track. At what point did it become ok to neglect our star player? Why hasn't anyone told us that self-love isn't selfish at all? In fact, it's necessary to remain afloat. There's nothing wrong with treating yourself. Buy that fancy dress you've been eyeing. Dine at that new restaurant you've been raving about. Enjoy a spa day. Know that you're just as beautiful as you were before the kids, marriage, career. Nothing's changed but the year. Dust your crown off & strut. Hold your head high and offer no explanation for making your well-being a priority. No one has to approve. However, respect is non-negotiable. Create the life you wish to live. What you don't feed will starve so give no energy to the naysayers. There is no box that you need to fit neatly into. Be different. Stand out. Remember, an original is always worth more than a copy. No one can be you better than you!

I Cost My Friend $40,000 Because I Didn't Believe In Myself
It is not easy to write about failure. It is especially difficult when the failure was not borne of a mistake but a mistaken belief in myself that turned out to be, ironically, not enough belief in myself. And it is a hundred fold more difficult, or a million, when that failure cost a dear friend financially, emotionally, physically and mentally. Sigh…

Motivational Running Techniques
Have you ever wanted to try and improve your running technique? Have you ever felt like you wanted to go faster or run longer than you have before, but each time that you do it feels as if though you cant? What if I told you that all it takes is just a little mental motivation inside of you telling yourself that you can push yourself beyond your limits and you can work harder to get faster or run longer. All you need to do is just take a pause while you're running and focus on the words in the next paragraph. These words come from the TV show 'The Flash', but I gotta say hearing it and saying it to myself when I am running does make me go faster at times and does make me want to push myself to finish strong. Whether your trying to improve your speed or build up your wind, these few simple words can help out anyone with their mental state while running.
