FAT in Film
I was always a shy and obedient child; molded into obeying- don't ask questions, just do as you're told. I followed along to whatever any adult ever told me to do because I wasn't taught that I was allowed to think for myself. I didn't even know I could. I wore what I was told, ate what I was told, went where I was told, and so forth. It was my life until I found out that I had a voice and I was allowed to use it. Once it started, it just never stopped.

Make your own!
The start of learning Since I became disabled and had to retire early due to rheumatoid arthritis I seem to have an abundance of time. To help keep the arthritis at bay and my hands working, I started creating different art projects. I started with origami and paper flowers after I was given a beginner's origami kit. I became fairly good at flowers and one of my pieces was volunteered to be an entry for the State Fair of Texas. That is a different story for another day, but the result was a First Place Blue Ribbon. The next year as I was trying to find floral inspiration for that years state fair entry a strange thing happened. I had quite a few one-inch square pieces of black and white paper cut for some reason. The paper was laying out on my desk in the basic shape of a checkerboard. So I decided to take a break from making flowers to make a quick checkerboard, little did I realize at the time that it would lead to making a chess set.

The power of vulnerability
When I started to experience the power of vulnerability, the results were incredible. A weight lifted off my shoulder. I was able to cope better and my relationships improved. The most magical thing was to also create a place for others to find the courage to be vulnerable. My vulnerable strength spread confidently throughout my circle and I felt empowered as a leader and authentic communicator. I set out a strategy for goals, little and grand, with each day, I made a little bit of progress until I was able to walk again, my graduate CPA certificate in hand. We can achieve so much by embracing the power of vulnerability. Now more than ever our community needs authentic movements for supporting vulnerable forms of leadership.

Abandoned Beauties
She was absolutely beautiful, in my opinion, but very few people would think so. She sat in a puddle of water, squished in between brittle brown ivy sprigs and the barren branches of a lifeless jade. She had flung a few pale pink flowers up from her central crown. They were ruffled and shaded to a darker hue along the edges. Most of her flowers had shriveled weeks ago and stuck to the dust-clogged fur of her leaves or hung over her pot’s sides like abandoned parachutes. African Violets do not have a scent. Their petals have an iridescence which, in nature, attracts moths by moonlight. Her blossoms caught and held the light from the overhead neon sign flashing ‘Special Sale’.

Speed Bumps Ain't Made for Stopin'
It was hot summer's day. The moment you stepped outside you could tell the sun was not particularly gracious to anyone who had the courage enough to brave the intolerable heat. The scorching rays of sunlight barreled down without any mercy. And along with it cane a Southern summer's heat. It was muggy, sticky, and humid. The kind of air that you can almost feel on your skin.

The mindset of Winners v/s the mindset of Losers
In Indian epic Mahabharata, there is an incident mentioned in which a race was organised between Kauravas and Pandavas. Duryodhan, who was the strongest Kaurava was always jealous of Bheema, the strongest Pandava. Bheeshma(The grandfather of Kaurava and Pandavas)was the supervisor of the race.

Change
Nobody can make me feel as miserable and worthless as I can. It has always been one of my worst character traits. The self-loathing I can inflict on myself can be so damaging, I find myself wanting to sleep my life away. The beautiful dreams that encompass my sleep, are always more pleasant than reality.

Today is Your Day
When I was in my 1st year of university I decided that I wanted to learn to sew. This was way before Google could answer your every question and YouTube was the expert on everything! I had to do it the old fashioned way and learn from trial and error. I started making totes because what 19 yr old doesn’t want to learn to make their own handbag (I know it’s hard to believe but I was completely serious, guys!). Before long I graduated to sewing my own clothes. At that time in my life, the sky was the limit. I seriously believed I could do anything I put my mind to. There wasn’t a teacher, mentor or social media influencer whose example I was trying to emulate. I was simply following my own path. It helped that I had the support of a loving family and that I was able to see myself through their eyes: independent, smart and capable. Fast forward to now and I’m certainly not as enthusiastic and confident in my abilities; the world no longer feels like my oyster. Age has brought with it handicaps and limitations that are self imposed. Doubt, insecurity and fear of failure are more comfortable companions than they once were.

Money Book
It was a typical day in the city of brotherly love. Winter was starting to come to an end. Lola has been grateful for the winter but is happy to see spring come. She has been going through tough times financially but has been keeping a smile on her face anyway. Things could be worse she thought to herself. I have much to be grateful for.

Change One Word, Change Your Mind
We’ve all heard the saying “I’m tired of this shit” and we’ve probably said it ourselves. In fact, that thought may be why you are reading this article today. About 5 years ago, I heard a coworker say it differently. He used “from” instead of using the traditional format: “I’m tired FROM this shit.” He was joking around with co-workers when I overheard him and I failed to ask him why he said it differently, but I’ve never forgotten that interesting quip and now I use it myself, when necessary. It is actually quite profound.

A DAY TO REMEMBER *Alarm * As I peel my heavy eyes open and wipe the sleepiness from them, I catch sight of the time 8:15am! I can’t believe I slept through every alsrm I set, I knew staying up finishing this project for Mr.Tade was a terrible idea. As I run through my studio collecting my purse and papers, shoving slacks and a blouse on, I take a sip of last night cold coffee and head for the door. Running and biting my purse trap to hold it in my mouth holding with one arm all of last nights regrets; I throw my hand up and wave the first taxi over. As I jump in and throw out my work address to the driver, I toss my stuff in the seat next to me and start to put my hair in a ballerina bun to hide my shame. Applying my makeup while hitting New Yorks roads was a skill only few can master, and I was not one. Finishing my lipstick the taxi pulls to the side “14.80” the driver said. I threw a 20 at him grabbed my stuff and ran into the building. The meeting had started already, I pulled my seat slowly and sat down everyone not daring to look my way to draw attention for Mr.Tade. “Miss Dasson I see you choose to finally join us today, since we are already half way through why don’t you go ahead and present my project.”
