The Emotions of Birds
Small birds are surprisingly emotional. It is common knowledge that dogs and cats have various emotions, but what about the birds? I am a new bird-mom to two male cockatiels. I had no idea that they would have such varied emotions. Because the internet is LITTERED with videos and blogs about the emotions of dogs and cats, I thought that my birds would be as emotional as my floral wall paper. Nothing could prepare me for what I discovered with both of my little birds.

Why a Dog Is Not a Christmas Gift
You know the saying "A dog is for life, not just for Christmas"? I feel like it has lost its meaning over the past few years. I’ve heard it less and less. In the absence of this message, I have seen an influx of posts and articles and charities and petitions trying to save dogs in shelters. Dogs that are simply unwanted.

Baby Ferrets and What You Need to Know
I've wanted ferrets since I was a kid; they're fun, small animals that always seem so interested in everything you're doing. I'm Not Brave
Remarks I have gotten regularly since the beginning of my riding career include "You're so brave!" or "I would never get on that horse!" or even "You're crazy!". While the latter may be true, I struggle daily to explain to fellow riders that I feel the same way as they do when a horse rears up in my face or bolts under saddle. It is not a matter of fear, it is simply a matter of how you choose to respond to the emotion.

Food Do(n'ts)
There is a lot of speculation on what is OK for our babies and what isn't. Everyone feels they know their baby and to an extent it is true. But more often than not we feed them things that we didn't know were really bad for them. A lot of times, despite what we think we know, we are under-educated. We go off what we know and what we have learned and what we grew up seeing. I was the same way, I have had animals all my life. Cats, Dogs, Rabbits, Snakes, Fish, Turtles, even a hermit crab. I always wanted to grow up to be a veterinarian, have a farm, and lots of land to rescue animals. My dream didn't work out that way, they hardly ever do. But I did become a Vet Assistant, and I learned that a lot of what I THOUGHT I knew wasn't even half of it and a lot of it was wrong.

A Pet Owner's Journey (Pt. 6)
Taking a pet to the vet can be a terrifying experience, especially if this is your first pet. You don't know how they will react to the environment. You don't know how they will react to getting examined or getting their shots. And you never know what the vet will find that could be wrong with your pet.
