Top 3 Misconceptions About Dogs
According to the 2017-2018 National Pet Owners Survey by the American Pet Products Association (APPA), 68% of U.S. households (or about 85 million families) own a pet. In 2017, a total of about 89.7 million dogs lived in households in the United States as pets. Somehow, in all those statistics, the most staggering one is that AT LEAST 4.5–4.7 million Americans are bitten by dogs every year and 20 to 30 of these result in DEATH, according to the CDC. Yes people, this is "man's best friend" we are talking about. Where did it go wrong in this equation?

McComb Animal Shelter
Here's some paws-itively good news! The McComb Animal Shelter is hosting an open house on Thursday April 26 from 1:30-6:30 PM and we want you to come visit! The open house is to invite the community to observe the positive changes the shelter has undergone and to see our continued project goals as well as our beloved fur babies. As a daily volunteer at the shelter, I can say that the Animal Control staff are working extremely hard to prepare for this event. From hanging decorations to extensive cleaning, we're grooming our shelter and furry sweethearts for you to come and have a look-see!

Is a Fox a Cat or a Dog?. Top Story - April 2018.
I was visiting a friend in Gold Hill, Colorado. It's right outside Boulder, but several thousand feet above it, up an unpaved road. The foxes there are so unafraid of people that they come right up to back porches. They'll even eat food if you leave it out for them, or just steal your leather moccasins.

Horses Can't Take the Piss!
In my many years spent as part of the equestrian community, I've come across many great riders and highly capable grooms. Even so, it worries me just how many harbour misconceptions about equine behaviour and perception. The amount of riding instructors I hear proclaiming that a pony is simply "taking the piss" and that you need to "show him who's boss" is troubling. In this article, I'm going to debunk this common, but misguided belief that I have encountered all too often within the equine community.

'Bless You'
For Christmas, my parents promised me I could get another cat. I could go to the small pet shelter 15 minutes away from the house and I could adopt a kitten. I could pick out whichever one I wanted and she would be my baby for the next year or two before I went to college.

Dogs, Dogs, Dogs!
About 5-6 years ago, my father took me to a house many miles from my own, after discovering a beautiful brownish red coloured dog on an adoption site. He was beautiful, and my whole family fell in love with him when we brought him home, but when I first saw him, I was on cloud nine right away.

Dealing With Doggy Depression
When we look at our dogs, we think they are just the happiest creatures on earth. It's hard to imagine our wiggly tailed and happy faced pooches could ever feel anything but innocent, pure joy. So for a lot of dog owners, they are surprised when they find out that dogs actually can suffer from depression.
