adoption
Our guide to animal adoption; learn why, where, and how to prepare to adopt a cat, kitten, dog or puppy from an animal shelter or rescue group.
Little Puppy
I have a tiny dog. Like, a really tiny dog. He is going to be 19 years old in September. I remember his birthday because we share it. It is probably not his real birthday but it is easier to remember this way. He is the biggest pain in the butt but I can’t remember a life without him.

A Cat’s Guide to Adoption
Marvin got his name from the book, A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. If you have read the book, or seen the movie, you would know it comes from the friendly but misunderstood robot, Marvin. Both Marvins have trouble in social settings, and are unsure of themselves, but in a pinch, they can make a rainy day full of sunshine. When we let our dog, Chloe, depart due to age, health, and quality of life, Marvin was still there. He opened up like he never had before.

Chain of Custody
I almost always had a pet as a kid, either a dog or a cat or both. Then 40 years went by without any pets in the house. Now, for the past 20 years, my wife and I have shared space with cats and a dog, and they’ve left their indelible mark on us both.

Stray 2 Stay
When it comes to animal adoption stories, I have quite a few of them. However, to keep it short and brief, I'm going to discuss a story about a stray cat that we took in named "Snow". So this will indeed will be a snow story. Before I begin, I think it would do great justice to start with how my love for animals began, how it's going, and what I plan to do with it. I hope this read will encourage you to adopt a pet too one day.

A Little Dog Named Nibbles
To be honest, I don’t remember all the events and conversations that lead to it. I have little flashes of memories here and there. I remember meeting our property manager at Five Guys to negotiate the terms. I remember searching for her with no luck. And I remember the day we found her. I sometimes wish I could trace all the memories back to the beginning. Where was the initial spark? Perhaps it was the summer before when my first dog passed away while I was studying abroad. Maybe it was the forceful college dorms that disallowed dogs for my first two years of college. I cannot in honesty tell you the origin story and it’s probably not that interesting anyway. The moral of the story is that almost 5 years ago something really cool happened.

To Love and Be Loved
Over the course of my twenty-five years here on earth, I’ve had my fair share of pets. I’ve had guinea pigs, a dog, rabbits, fish, lizards. The first lasting impression I’ve had from a pet, though, was my rescue dog Kelsey. I had wanted a dog for so long and my parents wanted to fulfill that wish. They had tried to bring home a dog for me once before, and she had run away as soon as my dad opened the car door. We never saw her again. Then, a family who couldn’t take care of their dog anymore, gave him to us. That didn’t work out either as he would bite and scratch us. We ended up giving him back for obvious reasons.

The Blind Puppy That Saw Right Through Me. Top Story - April 2021.
Working in a veterinary hospital means either having such a slow day that you’re detailing kennels and reorganizing cabinets, or so busy you skip lunch and suddenly it’s midnight - there’s no in between. On this particular day, when I noticed a persistent whining noise coming from a kennel in the hospitalization area, it was the latter. It’s literally my job to keep track of everything going on with any patients in the hospital, so I quickly investigated the source of this noise and found a tiny culprit was causing the ear-numbing sound.

Vader, Ms Bean, Olivia, Maybach…
Morning sun beams crawled gingerly through the slightly opened curtains. Maybach was snoring next to me. Ms Bean has her eyes closed, but, knowing her sly nature, she was pretending to be asleep. Vader was rustling with old newspapers… hmm… like always… a hurry-scurry creature…
