cat
It's been said that people that hate cats will come back as mice in their next life.
Mirabella
When I first met my beloved kitten, my aunt and I were fostering her and her two little sisters. We had fostered kittens previously, but these three were the youngest we had ever had, only six weeks old. We didn’t know where their mother was or what happened to her, but these small little babies were terrified of everything and everyone. We had them in their own room, so they would be separate from the other cats that belonged to my aunt.

In the Time of Your Life, Live
We named her Seven. But my youngest wasn't sold on the name, so I took the red magnetic 9 off our fridge, placed it in the kitten's dish and said: "Wouldn't it be funny if Seven ate 9?" That rocked my four year old's body with laughter and from then on Seven was our new cat's official name. My eldest always called her Sevy.

An Unlikely Pair
So many people have said they preferred animals over humans. I can well understand why someone might feel that way. I have many human friends but my animal companions have always been ranked in the "best friend" category along with a privileged few humans! Let me share one of my favorite stories about our two favorite family pets.

Zoey the Globetrotting Cat
One night in Beijing, about three or four years ago, a Chinese man bought a kitten for his foreign girlfriend. The kitten was a small thing, with tiny flat ears and striped fur. Little flecks of orange dotted her coat. Her large eyes took up most of her face.

People often don't think of what it means to have a small soul lock onto yours. The immediate connection you get when you first lay eyes on each other, and the trust that builds from the initial, "Hi, how are you? My name is..." But that connection is only built with humans. The connections that go far and beyond are the connections you make with souls that can't even speak to you.

January Again
I’ve written about my kitty before. I wrote about how January came into my life before, but she was just a little kitten then. She could crawl into my diet soda boxes and peer out at the world like a queen in her palace. She’s way more of a queen now than she ever was, even if she prefers to lay on my laundry basket, which is right by my desk.

Cats Are Jerks
I am, what my friends consider, a "cat lady" as I have 4 cats and want about 4 more. I have always loved cats; they have such different personalities but know how to help when you are sad. My 4 cats are all very different in personalities, breeds and colors. Tompkins, my oldest boy at 7 years old, I have had for over a year and adopted him from a local shelter. He is an orange and white handsome guy with yellow/green eyes and is very independent, but will come around for pets at least once a day. Missy, my 2 and a half year old baby was also adopted from a local shelter. She is a tortoise shell, multi-colored beauty. If it were up to her, she would never stop being pet and she will put her face in yours and nudge your hand when she wants your attention. Tucker, my Siamese boy, is almost a year old. He is my snuggle bug, always flopping himself into my arms like a baby for love and attention. He is also my biggest cat, even weighing more than my 7 year old and even longer and taller than him too. Tucker is by far my biggest jerk. Then, last but not least, is Bagheera. He is also almost a year old, only 2 weeks younger than Tucker. Bagheera is a Tuxedo, and he is a momma's boy for sure, only letting me hold or pet him.

A Ginger Biography
King of the Household Ginger will be celebrating his tenth birthday in human years next month. We’ve had him since he was born and even though our family don’t live together anymore, he is still very much loved. He has been a part of the family since the day he was born and turned my mum from a cat hater to a cat lady. He goes by many nicknames. My mum even calls him her “sexy boy” which makes me stepdad and aunts cringe like there’s no tomorrow. Other nicknames include Ginge, or Ginge-Minge which he responds to well.
