dog
It's no coincidence that a dog is a man's best friend; they're more faithful than most other animals, and more faithful than many people.
What to Expect: Pup Owners
Ever since I was little, I always dreamt of having my very own pet. Of course I grew up with family pets; I think that's why I love animals so much. Pets give you a purpose; they depend on you to take care of them, love them, spoil them, discipline them, teach them. The list goes on and on. I got my first puppy this year, and I have learned a few things about what it takes to care for this little being, so I'm going to share everything with you.

Scrappy the Australian Cattle Dog
I was lying in bed, scrolling through Facebook one morning as per my morning ritual when I came across the most gorgeous fox-like face. He was two and a half years old and was being re-homed due to aggression between him and his senior 15-year-old brother. His owner assured he was a good dog and really just needed a home where he could be alpha male.

My Dog Will Always Be the Third Spoon
It was July 29th, 2015 when my whole word changed. I was running late for work, exhausted from the depression that had taken over me and rushing to a job that made me miserable. I was fuming over my latest argument with my fiancé, James. A classic "cover up" argument where we are arguing about the dishes but really we were getting married on our first year anniversary in just a few days. Things kept getting hostile as the day drew closer. We both hoped the other would call it off and neither wanted to admit to failure. Me coming out of a physically, emotionally, and mentally abusive relationship jumped at the opportunity to be head over heels in love with someone safe. James, coming out of his own baggage, jumped at the chance to finally live happily ever after. We didn't listen to the warnings, we were stubborn and now we were facing the reality of the decision we made.

A Pet Owner's Journey (Pt. 14)
Dogs are "man's" best friend. They are a companion. They are meant to love you, be loyal to you, and be by your side. But any pet owner will know that dogs aren't actually always by your side. They aren't quite as aloof as cats can be, but dogs can be standoffish and they can need their space.

Raising Louis (Part 1)
So it snowed. For the first time properly in a long time. Not as much as some places get, but a lot for the south of England.Louis is nearly 10 months old, and about to see snow for the first time. I'm not sure what he'll make of it, as he's very sensitive to change (even the neighbours putting up a Christmas wreath has set him off), but he's got to go out in it sometime.

A Dog Named George
I have been a Correctional Officer for twenty seven years. In 2003, my little jail closed and I was relocated to a new jail an hour away from my home. Compared to my former jail, this one was huge, which I found a little overwhelming. That first year was a hard one. My marriage ended, I was suspended from work exactly one year later, in January 2014, and to make it that much more difficult, the day after my suspension, I moved to a new town of 2,500 people knowing not one of them. It was just myself, my two cats, a litre and a half of red wine every night, and my anger. Then depression set in for the first time in my life. I found myself staying in bed all the time.

A Pet Owner's Journey (Pt. 13)
If you've ever owned a pet you know that they are a bit of a mystery. It's hard to get inside of their heads and figure out what is really going on. We can look for subtle hints and signs, but sometimes there is really no road map to understanding your pet.

My Siberian Husky
Siberian Huskies are some of the most elegant and majestic dogs around. The way they run brings about fierceness and strength to their stature. However, despite these facts, Huskies are also some of the goofiest and sassiest dogs you'll come across.
