Embrangle: to perplex or confuse

Despite being a new word to me, I love the look, sound and meaning of it. The arrangement of letters remind me of a long, tangled dog’s leash; it’s pronunciation is almost onomatopoeic and the meaning resonates strongly.

Our family regularly spouts song lyrics applicable to the situation we find ourselves in. A favourite of my husband’s is “Been dazed and confused for so long”, the first line of Led Zeppelin‘s song Dazed and Confused.

***

Embrangle

We’re like

two peas

in a pod

Me

and

my dog.

At times

we are smart…

Until

lightning

zaps us

like a dart.

He ambles amicably along

accompanied by a chorus of birdsong

then

screeches

to a jolting halt…

Clueless as to what’s at fault.

Statue still…

stranded

helpless

until…

Patient hands

detangle

his lead

set him free to

tackle

the next hill.

*

Life’s

a struggle…

daily

my phone

eludes me

Red on red

hiding in

plain sight…

how can it be?

*

Delicious Anzac biscuits

baked

without oats

accidentally!

*

Doing sums in my head…

much safer to be dead!

Heart

tap dances

head

spins

like a top…

Is this reality?

Wherever

will it stop?

Your poem does perplex in lovely haphazard sort of way. Kind of life. Embrangle is a fascinating word to play with for sure! PS. you can't go wrong quoting Led Zeppelin!

And life’s a constant embrangle, which your poem captures well!
