Galle to Weligama
Thoughts on the digital nomad life in Sri Lanka when I find myself in a place with many, many other digital nomads...

Down the beach
We cruise
To thumping techno
Tunes, playing
Tuk-tuk tetris
Dodging traffic
Avoiding buses with
Peacocking decorations
And beeping horns
By the bay
A family plays
Cricket on the sand the
Daughter stands
At deep long-on
Ankle-deep in sea and
The ball never makes it past
Square
But she doesn’t mind
At all, meanwhile the driver
Minds me less
When he learns
I am not Russian.
_
The next day at
Pasijou Cafe
There exists a book case
Entirely in Cyrillic and
Pelmeni on the menu
Uncomfortable comfort food
And I admit a certain awkward
Gladness the current distaste
On this island
For all things Russian
Has not made it all the way
Down to the dumplings.
