Invitation to trust and breathe

Glide into the emerald pillows of grass waves

ply your wanders and wonders

Breathe in the blushing blue thyme meadow,

as it gives way to tawnied garden ground

where hyacinths peel back their velvet petals inviting touch

and trusting us to feel their gentle folds

and breathe the honeyed scent

of their rounded crowns.

Venture forth into the wood where squirrel tails

flutter and jut,

among bark and branch and sunlight and leaves.

Emerge to witness the waterfall

duck under its cooling wall

tread carefully on wet rocks caressed into smoothness

by droplet fingers that polish on the potter's wheel of time.

Press on.

Ascend the mountain's white blanket apex

behold the stillness and wonder of the world's panorama.

When there were too many Pabst Blue Ribbons, my uncle danced in his underwear with a light brown teddy bear.

Now, leave the mountain falcons to their perilous dives.

Descend these alabaster peaks

into the black-speckled and sparkling gray granite,

mind the chirps and trills of mountain quails,

See the sights and songs of the descent

are as sweet and sacred as those of the ascent,

Praise the purity of the blankets of soft snow

Favor them as they melt to embrace

their return to the quartz and dirt,

changing even the stoic faces of stones.

Perhaps you didn't notice?

Perhaps you did.

Mind your mind and focus your gaze.

Seek the beauty of the world.

Its revelations await.

I am a lazy commenter and will say that I agree with everyone. I loved how I felt transported and then the unnecessary line landed so wonderfully. Made me grin and made me think your uncle sounds amazing. Congrats on the Top Story. Good to see our pieces together!

Your poem has such a nice rhythm to it, I was transported to another realm of feelings and thinking, John.

  • I think I want to be friends with your uncle…think
