Roller Coaster

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished about 14 hours ago 2 min read

Verse 1

When I first laid eyes on you, I swear the room began to tilt,

Like my heart stepped on a carnival ride it wasn’t built for.

You had storms behind your smile and galaxies inside your sighs,

And I knew right then my feet were nowhere near the safety line.

Pre‑Chorus

I felt the warning signs flash red across my chest,

But something in me still leaned in, refusing to forget.

Chorus

I wasn’t tall enough to ride your emotional roller coaster,

Didn’t meet the height requirement for the highs or the lows.

You had loops made out of lightning, drops carved out of old heartbreak,

And I was standing there barefoot, praying I wouldn’t break.

I wasn’t tall enough to ride you, but God, I wanted to know

Where your wild heart goes.

Verse 2

You carried every lifetime like a ticket in your hand,

Every joy, every wound, every ghost that shaped your plans.

I tried to climb the railing just to see the view you see,

But your sky was built for thunder, not a gentle soul like me.

Pre‑Chorus

Still I kept my place in line, hoping courage might appear,

Even knowing every turn of you was equal parts thrill and fear.

Bridge

Maybe love’s not about being ready, maybe it’s about being brave,

Stepping past the painted line and trusting you’ll survive the wave.

Maybe every ride worth taking asks a little bit of faith,

And maybe I grew taller just by standing in your gaze.

Final Chorus

I wasn’t tall enough to ride your emotional roller coaster,

But I climbed in anyway and held on through the rise and fall.

You were chaos, you were beauty, you were everything unspoken,

And somehow in the madness, I learned not to fear the call.

I wasn’t tall enough to ride you, but loving you made me grow

More than you’ll ever know.
