In distant lands, you grew
Carefree, peaceful, and exquisite
But mankind had intent for you
Thus greedy strangers come and visit
Praise be the noble bean!
Plucked from ancestral homes
Without protest, or objection
A journey of a divine cause
Elixir of resurrection
A sacrifice to extend our lives
Or rather tolerate, our nine to fives
Praise be thy noble bean!
Burned and beaten, ground and maimed
Made sacred, by the scalding rain
Essence dripped into a chalice
Forgive us for, our desperate malice
Though barbaric, possibly obscene
Praise be to you O’ noble bean!
The noble bean, it bears no grudge
Thine sacraments a warming hug
Into our darkness, it shall plunge
Once released from cup, or mug
Praise be the noble bean!
Blackened body, soul-like steam
Anointed by righteous caffeine
Blaspheme not, with sweets nor cremes
Lest you dishonor noble bean!
The truest friend in every way
Who's there with us, each rising day
No judgment for our morning breath
Emboldening this waking death
Cast demons, of sleep astray
Together now, we conquer day
Rescuer from lethargies schemes
Praise be to thee, thy noble bean!
We all salute, that which you do
Unguent, for the human machine
Progenitor, of the sacred brew
An ode to thee, thy noble bean!

She was wearing that green dress when I first saw her, five years ago to the day. Flowing meadow fabric draped over long legs, thick auburn hair flowing down her back. That smile. Of course, she is still beautiful now. But now she is no longer alive.
