The Silence
In This Room

The silence in this room
Scratches at the exposed nerves of my heart
Stinging and thundering through my veins
The silence in this room
Makes my ears ring as they strain
To hear your last words and breaths
“I am full, but I am empty,” you say,
“I am here, but I am there,” you quietly mutter
Your back slightly arches, you cough
And your wings suddenly return
You squeeze my hand and your touch goes slack
The silence in this room
Despairs in the immediate absence of you
I despair in the absence of you
