Why Go To Therapy

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished about 16 hours ago 2 min read

Verse 1

I woke up with a feeling I should probably fix my life

Maybe talk about my childhood, maybe sort out all my strife

But the minute that thought landed, I just laughed into my cup

Because caffeine hits my bloodstream and my mood goes shooting up

So why go digging through my trauma like a miner in the dark

When a latte and a daydream light a fire in my heart

Chorus

Why go to therapy

When I can just drink coffee and be weird

Let my thoughts run wild and sideways

Let my quirks stay unapologetically here

I could unpack all my issues

Or just vibe through all my fears

Why go to therapy

When I can drink coffee and be weird

Verse 2

I know I’ve got some habits that a doctor might call “flags”

Like talking to my houseplants and befriending grocery bags

I could sit with some professional and trace the reasons why

But espresso makes me honest and a little extra spry

So instead of deep reflection, I’ll just caffeinate my soul

And embrace my odd existence like it’s always been my goal

Chorus

Why go to therapy

When I can just drink coffee and be weird

Let my thoughts run wild and sideways

Let my quirks stay unapologetically here

I could unpack all my issues

Or just vibe through all my fears

Why go to therapy

When I can drink coffee and be weird

Bridge

Maybe someday I’ll get brave

And face the shadows in my mind

But today I’m choosing chaos

And a peace I only find

In a mug that’s slightly chipped

With a heart that’s slightly odd

I’m a caffeinated mystery

And I’m fine with that, by God

Final Chorus

Why go to therapy

When I can just drink coffee and be weird

Let the world stay slightly sideways

Let my magic stay sincere

I could heal in tidy stages

But that’s not my vibe this year

Why go to therapy

When I can drink coffee and be weird

If you want, I can also make a darker Appalachian‑gothic version, a pop‑anthem version, or a stripped‑down acoustic folk version.
