There Is Always Something to Be Thankful For
You may sometimes or often have days where you feel deeply sad and/or fed up about life. Maybe it's your home life, finances, job, friends, relationships, mental health, or the many other factors that can come into play. But a really important thing you can do is not focus on what you don't have, or what you wished you had or didn't have, but rather on the good things you do have, the things you’re thankful for.

Living with Self-Doubt
There is something more crippling then our political war going on, and it is sitting in our homes. It is that little bubble of self-doubt. It creeps in when we least expect it and it latches on like a leech. You can be the most confident person in the world, and yet, self-doubt can break down every wall you have ever built. This is something every individual deals with at one point in their life, and it is time we start talking about it. Whether it is your looks, your brains, or your abilities to perform a specific task, self-doubt can kill all the good we created.

Senior Year, Best Year Ever! Right?
Well, not exactly. Going into my senior year of college, I had one thing on my mind—which was to get through fall semester. And let me tell ya, college was not a walk in the park for me by any means. School never came easily to me and I had to work very hard for the grades I have. So by my senior year, I was expecting to have that feeling of satisfaction, knowing I freaking made it to my senior year after all of the trials and tribulations I had been through. Well, that wasn't exactly the case, and for the entirety of my fall semester, knowing the end of college was near was the only thing getting me through the day. It was a very unfortunate way of looking at things during what was supposed to be the happiest year of my life, which took another huge toll on my mental health.

Like, every other morning I wake up with my bones full of lead. I can push through to go to work, but when I need to be working from home, or doing personal projects or pretty much any average day, the hopelessness saps at me and I find myself unable to even get out of bed.

“Victim Mentality"—If You Do Not Understand It, You Have Never Experienced It
Depression is real. Paranoia is real. Pain ... is real. Psychological or physical, it doesn’t matter. You will not find “victim mentality” in a DSM manual. It is neither a disease, nor an illness.

The “Lack Mentality” Is Killing Us
The truth bombs about reinforcing a mentality of shame due to lack of something in one’s life need to finally land. I’ve dropped these bombs on myself because this way of thinking led me and my friends to a life of torment, no matter how many stupid memes we post about how our life is a rancid garbage fire. The “lack mentality,” meaning the constant focus on what you don’t have or the habit of running away from the truth of your reality, is a slow, subtle suicide. As I break down how the “lack mentality” festers within us, the end of each point will propose what I call “Challenge the Illusion” statements. Please apply them to yourself if you struggle with this mentality or find yourself relating to the following points.
