Vocal Bonus Leaderboard: 11/29/2023
Welcome to the latest edition of the Vocal Bonus Leaderboard, where we showcase the outstanding achievements of our creators! đ Based on feedback from yesterday's Creator Chat (and many other voices prior!), we are thrilled to introduce a new Leaderboard category: Emerging Creators. This award recognizes creators who joined the platform within the last 90 days, and achieved the highest combined number of likes and comments on a story published in the past week. It's our way of acknowledging and encouraging new creators on the platform. The addition of this award is just the beginning of enhancements we will make to the Leaderboard.

Snafu Senryu Winners
Dana Crandellâs âHand Stampâ, the winner of our Snafu Senryu Challenge, brings humor and a thoughtful, original idea to our theme. How to convey that awkward moment in seventeen syllables, neatly dispersed over three lines? The delight of this challenge is that form and content seem perfectly matched: no one wants to linger too long over these embarrassing moments (to say the least!) and yet we canât help giving them space in our minds. Why not make good use of that space and turn anxiety into art?

Under a Spell Challenge Winners
What makes a spell? Thatâs what we found ourselves thinking as we read Madi Haywoodâs terrific winning story, The March of the Women. It begins with the â very real â words of Ethyl Smythâs 1911 ââMarch of the Womenâ â a song which became the anthem of the movement to get women the vote in Britain. In this stirring piece of historical fiction, Haywood not only uses wonderful images (âThe short heels on their worn boots clicked the ground together, a harmonious thunder that echoed and cracked around themâ) but also creates a real sense that Smythâs song is a spell, something that has a power beyond words, that works on its own so that those who hear it cannot resist. âOnce the song had begun, it couldnât be stopped,â Haywood writes. âAs long as they sung while doing their work, they couldnât get caught.â An unusual winner, perhaps â there are no clichĂ©s of witches here, no magic in the ordinary sense. But Madi Haywood has truly absorbed the spirit of this challenge and made it their own.
