Coco Chanel, Michael Kors, Tory Burch, and more—explore who has influenced the world of fashion the most, and who might be the next big name.
A Fashion Of Sorts.
Creativity can come fast or slow much like the world of fashion. I worked for a few years for a high fashion house learning the ropes and assisting to design the ready to wear collections. Because we were removed from the world of fast fashion, time was in our favour. With only four seasonal collections a year to produce there was more emphasis given to fleshing out the context of our inspiration and developing a complex story with nuances from light and shade, to cut, colour and fabrication. I would spend hours researching the history of our chosen theme and looking for clues to ignite the creative process.

THE FABULOUS DESIGNER
CHAPTER I NEW YORK CITY 1987 While studying at Parsons School of Design, I got a job as a busboy at the Metropolitan Cafe in Union Square. It was a fun job for restaurant work. I loved the atmosphere and helping out the interesting and glamorous waitresses who were pursuing other creative dreams like myself. The regular customer was a stylish, cosmopolitan type. One of the owners was a Scandinavian supermodel.

Back to basics and handmade
Back to basics and handmade.....working to the bone, hand sewing often comes with scratches and pin pricks but the effort is worth it. Two things of anything you make that’s handmade are never the same. There’s always something that slightly different about it. I make collections of brooches, stylised embroidery hoops, and sewn pictures as part of my work but I do other things as well. All my crafts require cutting, stitching, and a lot more time than sewing on a machine.

Elsa Peretti
Elsa Peretti... Tiffany's designer passed into the next life on 3/18/2021. I don't claim to know everything there is about her, but on the outside, it appears that she must have had a beautiful life. Sketch pads, organic fragments, memories of modeling for Halson, and a home near Barcelona? Oh, and a career of blue boxes. What an existence! Of course, we only know what we see...but what we see is pretty amazing.
