Dressed to Impress
My passion for fashion burns inside of me. Although I’m weak in the areas of owning my own style I have quite the few ideas of things I’d love to wear, have others envy enough to follow my original yet not completely original trends, and maybe even design someday. As a child I had wanted to be a fashion designer due to the show ‘That’s so Raven’ due to Raven Symone’s character’s alter attitude of wanting to be a clothing designer and that brought me to my own conclusion of wanting to do the same. Things have certainly changed over time and I’d rather much be a world peace or human rights advocate I still sit here today wanting to impress not just the guy who my heart is set on to looking good for him but for myself to stare in the mirror and feel hot.

Snapping at Threads in Time
I believe each of us expresses our soul through our art. Human beings are meant to create and to admire beauty in this world. It is what brightens the mundane. I want to admire the clothing I wish to see. I feel at my very best when I wear it, not minding the gripes of "this is too costumey" from other people. Life is too short to worry about things like that. I visualize the dress in my mind, and see the colors flowing through the fabric, making its texture come alive. I feel the crushing of velvet fibers under my fabric scissors as I push the blades together. My blades glide like a swan through rich shot silk, and sever ribbons of many colors I hope to use for lacing. With every snip of my embroidery scissors snapping threads, I come this much closer to completing my dress. My left hand cramps at the extensive hours spent cutting up pattern paper and fabric, but such is the life of a thrifting seamstress. I feel most lost in my sewing endeavors when I am unable to find my scissors. They are an extension of my body, a valuable tool. If they go missing, my whole creative aura dampens. Thankfully, it rarely happens. My scissors are kept safe and lovingly wrapped in my cotton sewing belt, ready to be utilized at a moment's notice.

Bohe-ME-an?
Last week, I wrote an article for a recent Vocal challenge (Sweet Nostalgia), about my love of the 1980s. I commented on a couple hair trends and a fashion trend I'd love to see be brought back (if they haven't already), and how I wish I had the confidence to pull off these looks.

Romantic Looks from Past Times
Once upon a time, before Wikipedia and before (gasp) even the Internet, my favorite section of the encyclopedia was an article on clothing that featured full color illustrations of fashions through the ages. By now, the fashions current then, at the time of my encyclopedia perusal, are, if not exactly historical, at least vintage. This interest in clothing of the past has stuck with me until today.

Renegade Summer
I've always wanted to be as free as a man but as pretty as a woman. It wasn't enough to achieve this ideologically and politically. There have been many women who sought high achievements and paired their conquests with power suits. No, this is not for me. Someone like me takes in each day as its own adventure, whatever it may bring. If you are a free spirit, then your ride or die is life its very self, or, if you are 17. For those of us who question the very underpinnings of our mundane lives, we rebel with our day-to-day choices- from fashion, to food, to the very way in which we see our work, families, and free time. After finishing the 11th grade, I definitely was looking forward my free time. Especially since, my parents were away with our family friends and decided I was old enough to be alone while the kind old lady downstairs check on me.
