Rich or Russia
While the Rich family, for its own reasons, has succeeded in shutting down Fox News’ explorations concerning the murder of their son Seth, the issue is transcendental. It affects both international relations and constitutional governance. It impacts war and peace. It impacts liberty or liberty’s suppression. It requires resolution, whatever that resolution is, free from false reports but also free from suppression of relevant information.

Dear Donald... Think About The Kids
Dear Mr. President: As a high school English and French teacher, I get listened to more often than I realized. Kids are quick to point out when think they hear something incorrect or improper pass from your lips, and I learned early in my career to use that to my advantage, usually for a teachable moment of some shape or creation. It's led me to really think about the words I use both in and out of my classroom and especially around the kids in my life.

Manchester Tragedy Sees Suicide Bomber ID'd, Humanity Rising
Terror has hit the world's youngest, and once again, humanity is showing its resolve. Pop sensation Ariana Grande had just finished her concert in a packed Manchester Arena when concertgoers heard a loud "bang" and saw smoke, sending fans and parents reeling and seeking both cover and medical aid. By the time the smoke had cleared, 22 people were dead and 59 were injured.

We Must Stand Together
Everywhere I look I am reminded of the barbaric event that happened yesterday in Manchester. For those who aren’t up to speed, 22 people attending Ariana Grande’s concert in the Manchester Arena were killed by a fatal suicide bomb attack containing shrapnel injuring at least 59 others towards the end of the concert last night. Fans heard a loud explosion and rushed to safety out of the arena.

When it was first announced that you might run for the role of President of the United states, I laughed. Many of my Canadian friends laughed. We were so sad to see Obama leave the office, disheartened to see what Hillary was facing, and worried about who the new President would be. But still, your bid seemed like a joke to be played out in social media, and one that would never come to fruition. It was hubris, and you were clearly a narcissist. The American people would not allow it. This was not the first time I watched in disbelief as the American people voted against their own interests. I was similarly shocked by the level of support that George W. Bush received, and horrified by the antics of Sarah Palin. But I never even imagined that the people, the presidency, would stoop so low.

That's Stupid
For several years now I have administered discipline in high schools and middle schools, which has given me a unique insight into human behavior and American culture. Our children are tiny, carnival mirrors reflecting the best, and the worst of us in obscene and sometimes inaccurate proportions, but reflecting truth none the less. One way observing young people is useful is to see them as negative role models. Essentially, if you want to act like an adult, stop acting like your children.

Manchester's Defiance in the Face of Violence
This morning I woke up to the news that there had been a terrorist attack in my home city. It seemed unreal, like it was almost a dream. The last time that I woke up from what I thought was a lucid dream, the 8 o'clock news announced that Donald Trump had been elected US president. It's a weird world that we live in. But last night's events occurred less than a mile from where I live, and the reality of that hits one square in the face. I didn't hear the explosion, even though the Manchester Arena is so close to my apartment. I had the TV off, and was insulated from the Internet. I was blissfully unaware until I woke up today.

When America Played The Trump Card The United States Lost
Who would have thought that at the beginning of last year's Presidential Primaries, Donald Trump would go on to become the President. In retrospect, too many Americans failed to heed the warning signs that Trump displayed right from the first Republican debate. The media being so focused on their bottom line shoved Trump into the nation's consciousness with every debate and public appearance. As it turned out, it was a win-win for both the media and Trump. The main stream media conglomerates made millions and Trump went on to win the electoral college and the Presidency. As we look back to that very first debate of the Republicans it became quite obvious what the media and Trump were doing. It is too bad the American public failed to see that while the media was reaping huge financial dividends in covering Donald Trump, Trump was beguiling the public into thinking that only he can, as his catch phrase goes "Make America great again." Today the country has only moved in reverse and not forward under the Trump Presidency.

Dear Mr. Trump...
Dear Mr. Trump, I want to pity you, I really do. However, I have no idea what you thought the outcome of your candidacy would be. Your scorn and derision for President Obama are simply being repaid, in kind. If you are the man that you think you are, prove us wrong. I would love to look back in three years at the wonderful surprises that led to a better country for all of us. Winston Churchill was also a harsh man who was little liked by anyone who knew him personally. Yet history remembers him as the man who was needed at that exact moment in time. This isn’t at all uncommon in history. My question to you is, can you be the dealmaker? Because this country is on a collision course with a second Civil War, and we need you to be that man.
