Somers Tennis Starts off with a Win versus Lakeland
Please see tip, pledge and subscribe buttons below On Tuesday September 3, the tennis team kicked off the fall sports season for Somers. At Reis Park, the girls faced Lakeland, and the visitors didn’t have much buzz. The Tuskers won six out of seven matches, and Victoria Morel and Gabby Crecco were first to clip their opponent’s wings. A 6-0, 6-2 win, balance was the key.

Red Sox Young Talent Casas May Be A Trading Chip
If John Henry remains the same owner he has always been, Red Sox Nation might want to come to terms with the idea that Triston Casas may be one of the major negotiating tactics to use in this upcoming off-season for Boston. With the Red Sox finishing a season in which young talent is still developing, they failed to lack the experience needed to make the playoffs for the third year in a row.

Mariano Rivera was the Best Pitcher of All Time, # 42
Mariano Rivera pitched for the New York Yankees for 19 years (1995-2013) and was the greatest pitcher ever. This is not an opinion. It is proven: I will explain this later in the article.

American League's 2024 Postseason Field Completed
There is always something epic about the final weekend of the MLB season. The obvious reason is because it ends a very long journey; 162 games to determine who becomes part of a very small postseason field. Normally, the days and games are quite linear in the final three days--the antepenultimate day is Game 160, the penultimate day is Game 161, and of course, the final day is Game 162. However, Hurricane Helene caused a bit of a monkey wrench in the end of the season, as a pair of games between the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves have been pushed back into a doubleheader planned for Monday, September 30.

Phillies' Postseason Streak Continues with Division Title
You know, a small thing that fascinates me: I do love that out of all of the MLB teams who wear red, it's the Philadelphia Phillies who use the "Hunt for Red October" title to describe their postseason push. I think they're the only "red" team who do this. I want to say I remember the Angels doing this during their 2002 run, but I don't think so. So yeah, the Phillies are on quite a streak, and to think, it all started with the team firing Joe Girardi during the middle of the 2022 season.

Improbable and Impossible: A Look at the 1988 Los Angeles Dodgers
You know, a lot of crazy shit in sports happened in the 1980s. The Islanders and Oilers dynasties, the rise of the San Francisco 49ers, the NBA hit the state of Florida, the Raiders moving to Los Angeles--and later winning the Super Bowl. You name it, it's happened. Baseball was no different. I did mention the Kansas City Royals and the New York Mets championship runs in previous stories, and here, I want to discuss that memorable run by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1988.

Yankees Can Clinch AL East and Number One Seed
The New York Yankees can clinch the American League East with a single win in the last week of the season. The number one seed and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs now has a magic number of four. The first of these goals can be accomplished tonight with a win over the Baltimore Orioles. The second goal can be achieved over the week, but a few Cleveland Guardians’ losses wouldn’t hurt.

Well, baseball fans, this is it. We have reached the final week of the 2024 MLB season. Baseball, for over a century, has always been a marathon, but it's now about to end. We have just seven days left in the regular season, but there is still quite a bit to piece together.

Nationals Demote All-Star CJ Abrams Following Casino Incident. AI-Generated.
In a surprising move, the Washington Nationals have demoted All-Star shortstop CJ Abrams to the minor leagues after he reportedly spent the night at a Chicago-area casino. This decision comes just hours before a day game against the Chicago Cubs, where Abrams played and went 0 for 3, with one walk and a strikeout.

Guardians of the AL Central Galaxy
For the Cleveland Guardians, the 2023 season did not go well. 2022 saw them finish first in the American League Central, and they would fall one win short of playing for the pennant. 2022 was also the team's first year playing as the Guardians, and while it looked like they would dominate the Central every year, 2023 saw them take a bit of a nose dive. A third place finish and 76 wins, finishing 11 games behind the Twins in the division.

Brewers Take NL Central and Become 1st to Clinch in 2024
It's always a good feeling to be the first team in your league to clinch a spot in the playoffs, because that's one step in a multi-layered goal: winning a championship. In the case of the 2024 MLB season, that honor went to the Milwaukee Brewers, who had a stranglehold on the National League Central for months. The Brewers had their first opportunity to clinch the division on Tuesday, needing a win and a Chicago Cubs loss. A funny thing: the Cubs did lose at home to the lowly Oakland Athletics, but unfortunately, the Brewers fell to the Philadelphia Phillies.
