Small towns in the Keystone State

Many people regard the town of Jim Thorpe as the “Switzerland of America.” It is the starting point for outdoor experiences and is situated within the Poconos. Jim Thorpe, a Native American athlete, inspired the town’s name.

Visitors enjoy taking the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway.

Go rafting on the Lehigh River.

Johnstown was established in 1770 and has historical sites. The town is located in the Allegheny area at the confluence of the Little Conemaugh and the Stoneycreek River.

Savor the world’s steepest funicular, the Johnstown Inclined Plane.

Lancaster is located in the center of Pennsylvania’s Dutch Country. Its sizable Amish community’s history, culture, and legacy can be explored by the cultural sites and museums in the historic district. One of the earliest inland settlements in the US, Lancaster was established in 1729.

The town is surrounded by fertile farmland; the town is known for its local produce and farmers’ markets.

You can take buggy rides and tours around the Amish Village.

The quaint village of Milford is located in the Poconos Mountains. The town borders the state of New Jersey and is located along the Delaware River. The town is a blend of nature, culture, and history.

The Milford Historic District, which was established in 1796, is home to numerous impressive structures that showcase Victorian architecture.

Enjoy the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area for hiking and biking.

The charming and well-known town of New Hope is located next to the west bank of the Delaware River. Along with a number of historical sites and cultural icons, the little town boasts a thriving arts and culture scene in addition to a number of historical sites and cultural landmarks.

New Hope is also home to the historic Bucks County Playhouse, which hosts fantastic Broadway shows, musicals, and theater productions.

The tiny town of Ohiopyle is surrounded by many natural attractions. It was founded in the early 1800s by farmers, trappers, and hunters.

Enjoy Ohiopyle State Park, set in a scenic spot in the southwest of the state at a bend in the Youghiogheny River.

Set among the lovely scenery of the Poconos Mountains, Stroudsburg is a town for outdoor activities and nature lovers. The downtown has shops, restaurants, hotels, and BnBs. The impressive architecture of the Academy Hill Historic District is amazing.

Visit the Quiet Valley Living Historical Farm to learn about local life.

Enjoy the surrounding mountains for hiking, cycling, and skiing and the beautiful forests, waterfalls, and rivers.

Founded in 1806, Wellsboro is located in the north of the state in Tioga County. It has impressive Victorian architecture and streets lined with authentic gas streetlamps in the historic district.

This town is the start to exploring the nature of Pine Creek Gorge, known as the “Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania.”

Visitors enjoy horseback riding around Tioga State Forest.

The charming town of Yardley was founded in 1682 and is bordered to the east by the state of New Jersey and the Delaware River. The town is well-known for its eateries, shops, and historic structures. During the American Civil War, Yardley served as a crucial stop on the Underground Railroad.

Zelienople, a quaint town on the south bank of the Connoquenessing Creek, was founded in 1802. It features old structures and cultural sites. Dettmar Basse built the town , which eventually prospered because of its location along the Pittsburgh to Erie route. The town was named after Zelie, the daughter of Dettmar Basse, a German aristocrat.

Among the historic landmarks is the old Strand Theater.
