Diarist: Alaska ~ The Return of Ugh
Alaska The first time I went to Alaska, I was working on the Alaska Marine Highway as a Third Assistant Engineer. This series of Diarist Entries will present my journal entries over the two weeks I worked onboard the ferry Malispina. I'm excited to start this series because sea journals, narrative ballads/sea poetry, old sailor yarns, and the like have been very imactful on my writing and art! The entire Diarist concept but especially this series reflects my lineage as a mariner poet.

Mysteries of Our National Parks
There are over 84 million acres of woods, mountains, deserts, and preserved wilderness in the United State's National Park System, which makes it one of the prime places of disappearances and mysterious happenings to occur. So many of these mysteries remain unsolved. Hikers that just vanish into thin air, strange creatures that are spotted in the trees, even entire groups of people disappearing without any trace or explanation.

Under Western Skies
I spent most of my childhood in Eastern Wyoming, where the cattle outnumber people, the snow comes down horizontal, and coal mining is a way of life. It's taken me several years to appreciate this rough lifestyle. I'm in awe of those who still live in my hometown, battling the unforgiving Powder River Basin winters, the boom/bust economy, and the hard choices that stem from the loneliness geography can create.

Big Sky Country
The state of Montana, USA is Big Sky Country. Wild, delicate, and unforgiving, it calls to all that have ever visited there like a cool breeze off the Blackfoot river on a hot summer day. Everywhere one looks in Montana there is beauty to be seen, from the urban sprawl of Missoula to the untamed wilderness of the face of the Rockies, the continental divide in Choteau and the Bob Marshall national wilderness. What is it that is so attractive about this sometimes inhospitable place? What makes Montana unique are the opportunities it offers, opportunities unlike any other place on Earth.

Martha’s Vineyard A Small And Gorgeous City In Massachusetts
My parents are the biggest motivation in my life. My entire family is the product of Harvard University. They have been telling me to join Harvard since my childhood. Both my brother and sister are pass outs of Harvard. Though I mainly was interested in music and never had plans to go to Harvard. I love playing the drums. I am also in my school band. They have supported me but always said that it was just a passion and not a career. I love my family, but I also love to play. I was the only talented kid in the family with music; my grandparents always said that I was a musical gem of the family. Most of the motivation was from them for my music.

The Amboy Crater Is a Volcano Hidden in Plain Sight
Few people in Southern California know that they're only a few hours away from the scene of a recent volcanic event. Standing 250 above the flat desert landscape, the Amboy Crater is an extinct volcano that once spewed lava over the Mojave Desert's floor. While the volcano is called a crater, there is nothing otherworldly about the origin of this place. The crater instead refers to the wide caldera that remains after an eruption that occurred here nearly 80,000 years ago. The explosion left behind a towering cinder cone of rust-colored rock and a dry lava bed almost two miles in diameter.
