Travel from sea to shining sea; by car or by plane, there's plenty to see in the good ole US of A.
The Island of Maui
I flew into Maui about a decade ago... It was an especially memorable time, here's why... The way the airport check-in staff look at you when they see your destination printed on the luggage tag. Believe me when I say that it can be a very jealous look; or perhaps even a look of envy. It might even make you laugh a little inside. This is especially the case if it happens to be the middle of winter (at a brisk twenty-five degrees below zero outside) when they catch of glimpse of your tag. Even still, you have the (roughly) six-hour flight over the pacific ocean, so don't get too excited just yet. This flight is made especially fun when you encounter delays or turbulence. Yet, when you’re trying to guess the halfway point (in nautical miles) between the mainland and the island — which, the pilot encourages, to keep the mood light and cheerful — there is an unmistakable air of adventure...

Travel Alaska
When most people think of Alaska, they think of the Northern Lights, icy glaciers, and bears. There are a lot more things in Alaska that people don’t know about. As America’s 49th state, Alaska has a lot of history, and adventure, for those hoping to make a trip in the future.

My Beach Getaway
I’m blessed to have grown up in a family that traveled a lot. My parents both grew up in Saskatchewan and moved to Ontario for their occupations. All of their family stayed out west. Every other summer my family would pack up to drive out west. I have a lot of fond memories of those trips. My Dad was a University Mathematics professor and had to attend annual conventions. My siblings and I knew from the start that these family road trips ended when we got to the upper grades of high school. Some of the destinations I got to see were Disneyland, the Indy 500, and The Grand Ole Opry. The first time I ever went on a plane ride was an unforgettable experience. I was with a singing group that summer. We’d already traveled from British Columbia to Ontario by bus. They saved the best for the last week and a half of the summer in Brazil. My first flight was from Calgary to Brazil. Although I was a nervous wreck for my first flight, in time it became an adrenaline rush. Now when I plan a trip to a destination that I’m flying to, I count the number of days until I get to depart.

TWO CHICKS ONE BOAT
“HOUSEBOAT ADVENTURES HERE WE COME!” I yelled over the music. We were on our way to the largest swamp in America. Our conversation was light as we drove through the wetlands towards Baton Rouge. The Boat rental place is located in Jennings, Louisiana and that is pretty much all we know. Alaina flipped through the information we printed out at the hotel before we hit the road as we drove through the wetlands. She read me some of the interesting facts about the birds and other wildlife in the area that we might see while we are out there. I was starting to get a little nervous and hoping that the pictures on the website weren’t deceiving. I didn’t want anyone to back out at the last minute so I kept my doubts to myself.

Three Chicks One Boat
Getting up the next day was much easier since we did not do shots all night and we all managed to get some rest instead of blacking out. Alaina was the first to get up and start cooking the last of our breakfast foods and brewing a pot of coffee. We ate, changed into our swimsuits and loaded the flat boat with some towels, sunscreen and water. We wanted to hit the water early before it got too hot and before Zeb came back for us. I didn’t think we would need to bring too much with us since I didn’t see us being out cruising the swamp too long. Starting the boat was easier than I expected. After a few pulls it jumped to life. I tried to remember what Zeb was telling us when he was talking about the boat but my mind was drawing a blank. I shrugged it off as Alaina and Kristy were getting into the boat slowly as if it was going to suddenly sink with their weight. They both relaxed slightly when they were completely seated and the boat wasn’t going down like the Titanic. Kristy untied the rope that was attached to the boat and I maneuvered the boat away from the cabin. I was surprised at how easy controlling the boat was. Within minutes we were zipping through the canals as fast as our boat would take us. Alaina was snapping photos with her camera and Kristy was videotaping our surroundings. The canals twisted and turned like a snake through the swamp. The other boats and swamp shacks we encountered along the way were sporadic. We would pause occasionally to take pictures whenever Alaina or Kristy would point to a particular area that they wanted me to move closer to. I didn’t think about how long we had been riding around until my stomach started to grumble and the engine started to sputter.
