solo travel
You've got somewhere to go, but no one to go with; solo travel is the nexus of independence and opportunity.
Rolling The Dice On Vietnam
February, 2017 Phu Quoc, Vietnam Earlier in 2017 I had a three week vacation coming up. I was getting off a ship in Singapore and had to be in Sydney for my next assignment. I was pondering where in Asia to spend my long vacation. Unable to make a decision I took to a strategy I had read about in a book a long time ago. I rolled the dice on it! First I asked my colleagues on the ship to suggest 6 countries in the area and we appointed a number to each country. The dice fell on Vietnam and my decision was made.

Traveling Alone
I believe that everyone should go traveling alone at one point in their lives because it really is a different experience to traveling with your family, friends, for work, or with school. For some people, traveling alone can be a daunting idea because they might feel that it is unsafe, or they may not be comfortable being alone, especially in a different country. For anyone traveling even with a group there are precautions that should be taken but I never once, as a solo female traveler, felt unsafe in my travels. For those who may feel uncomfortable being alone I think it is important to push ourselves outside of our comfort zone and experience something that is completely our own. This summer I traveled to a little island off the coast of Spain called Menorca as part of a five week European adventure. Each part of my trip was amazing in its own way, but Menorca was the only place I traveled to by myself.

I Am a Wanderer
I grew up in a very small town somewhat like the scene of The Simpsons. A town where most people work at the power plant, not that there is anything wrong with that—it just wasn't in the vision I had hoped for myself. I so desperately wanted out of that small town for so many years as I felt trapped in a little bubble just waiting to burst out. My family situation didn't make it much easier±but I'll save that for another post.

Traveling Alone? Don't Forget...
Traveling alone can be one of the best experiences of a person’s life. But that doesn’t mean it is without it’s risks, especially if you are a young woman. Not everyone has Liam Neeson as a father who can come rescue us if we find ourselves in dangerous situations.

How Travel Has Changed Me
People change, it’s inevitable. We all go through a sort of metamorphosis stage where we suddenly realize that who we are, is not the person that they want to be. In that stage, you are faced with the two most important decisions you will have, “Do I change or do I remain the same?” Don’t get me wrong, change is hard and for some, maybe even unimaginable, and I get that. I get that everyone has a different story and you can’t just make change happen overnight, but I will say that it is not impossible. It takes a mentally and physically strong and determined person to want to change and to actually do it.

I Want Adventure In That Great Wide Somewhere. Top Story - November 2017.
“What? That’s so cool. But…why?” Every time someone has asked me “why?” over the last two months, I’ve had some really great answers. Answers that were honest, but also very specificto the needs of each person that asked me – what they value, what they understand, how they think – because that’s something I’m good at. I’m great at editing my life to make it more palatable for those around me. Less great at making it palatable for myself.
