Tiny Beautiful Resolutions
On the first page of my new planner of 2024, it asked "What's your word for this year?" Now we'll come back to what word I picked in a second, but as I started thinking about what word would best encapsulate my intentions for 2024, I thought about the first episode of Tiny Beautiful Things on Hulu, and one part came to mind. For reference, Tiny Beautiful Things is a book by Cheryl Strayed that follows Clare (Kathryn Hahn) a floundering writer who becomes a revered advice columnist while her own life is falling apart. Write more, think less, fire my editor
It's funny to think that the first article I ever wrote on Vocal was about setting goals and New Year's resolutions, and here I am, 3 years and 108 stories later, writing one again. That first article, as much as I'd genuinely liked it when it was first published, is garbage. I'd rather read the instruction manual for my lawnmower, cover to cover and in all of the languages, than read that piece again.

I am in my favorite position. I am sitting up in my queen-sized bed, legs straight out in front of me, my back against the cushioned bookcase headboard, big snowflakes falling wet and heavy against my windowpane, and my fingers stretched over my laptop keys.
