50 Shades of Brooklyn
Another day, another man committing a crime to defend his lover allegedly. The hero fantasy is something that many people will admit to having and yet sometimes that particular fantasy takes a turn that is dark. Christopher Membreno is evidence of how the hero fantasy can turn into a nightmare of epic proportions. In an instant, four lives were changed because of two decisions that cannot be unmade. One man is facing time in jail, and another is dead because of one woman.

Belt Buckle Attack
It’s a scary time for people who are not straight White men. Seems like a facetious statement until you consider that hate crimes against gay, transgender, and people of color has risen exponentially in recent years. Violence against women is at an all time high. The group perpetuating these acts of violence? In many instances, the attacker is a heterosexual, White male. The case of Christopher Bradford is no different, down to the alleged reason that the attack occurred in the first place.

Republican Catfish
ASL? Anyone who has ever entered an internet chatroom has been asked this question. After answering, many of the people asking the question will ask for proof of this. A good catfish will have plenty of pictures available to share with their potential victim. Republican Illinois State Legislator Nick Sauer allegedly did this to at least eight straight men, using pictures that his ex-girlfriend sent to him.

The Forgotten McScam
Do you want to be an instant winner? It’s hard to imagine anyone saying no to a question like that, especially when the prize money is a million dollars. There is a group of people who would argue that the consequences of them saying yes were not worth the amount of money that they “won.” Being ensnared in the forgotten McDonald’s scandal that nearly brought down the fast food giant in a public relations nightmare and found a once-thriving marketing firm closing its doors is not something anyone wants to be remembered for.

New Face and Confidence With Semi-Permanent Makeup
What if there was a way for your face to always be ready to go, no matter the situation? There is, it’s called micro-blading or powder brows, depending on the procedure that is chosen. To learn more about this process, I talked with New Face owner Christine Hwang about all things semi-permanent makeup. She was also kind enough to let me sit in on a session where she tattooed eyebrows on to a client. It was an eye-opening experience.

The Demi Lovato Relapse Collapse
“I’m sorry I’m not sober...” Demi Lovato sings on her new single. Cynics theorized that the songstress was using addiction to sell more copies of her new CD, while others worried that she was crying out for much-needed help to no avail. In either case, the sobriety drama that surrounds Demi Lovato came to a head before noon on July 24, when emergency personnel were called because she had collapsed due to a suspected overdose on heroin or another opioid such as Meth. The next few hours were chaotic, haunting, and full of the kind of drama that is usually reserved for the silver screen.

Chelsea Handler Joins 'Will and Grace'
Full confession: Chelsea Handler is one of my favorite comics around, and Will and Grace is my favorite comedy ever. So this news is like Karen’s voice in my ears. It’s almost as good as hearing that Trump has been impeached, but let’s be real, the show might now survive that. The whole revival happened because of the darkness that has settled in around our country. Welcoming the Fab Four back was like reuniting with friends you haven’t had a drink with in years. There’s a comfort there. Anyway, Chelsea Handler is joining Will and Grace.... as a lesbian!

Trump and The LGBT Lie
If there's one thing that Trump can be counted on for, it’s lying and not keeping his word. Has this man kept his word on anything that he promised during the 2016 Presidential campaign? Mexico isn’t paying for the wall, the trade war that he initiated has hurt the very people he swore to protect, and he has the most anti-LGBT administration in more than 30 years. Remember that moment during the Republican National Convention when he swore that he would be a strong advocate for the gays? According to former press secretary, Sean Spicer, it was lip service to make sure he was handed the nomination.

Open Letter to Treasonous Trump
It was bad enough that the election was stolen from the rightful winner, but Hillary made mistakes too. She got cocky and figured she had it in the bag and could help the down ticket. What’s worse is you told us that the election was rigged and your followers blew up thinking you meant that it was in favor of Hillary. “But her emails” followed every argument against her becoming President. Apparently, we were supposed to just forget that one ex-wife accused you of rape and that you lied and insulted your way to the Republican nomination. That’s just another day in the world of Donald J Trump, right?

Food Fight
Ready to be hungry? It’s fried chicken vs. pizza, as two family dynasties fight over one man’s use of a racial slur threatens a major pizza chain. Sounds like something Shonda Rhymes would write doesn’t it? Yet John Schnatter, former chairman and CEO of Papa John's, is the man in the center of this controversy. He’s the one who dragged KFC, in particular, the deceased real-life Colonel Sanders into the mess by claiming the fried chicken king was a known racist.

Dating Is Hard, Vodka Is Easy
Ever since I moved back to the city, I have been on a dating frenzy. Some of the situations have been great and others, well that's best left to the Drunk Dating blog that I'm going to start. There's the one known as He Who Does Not Exist and then there's the Long Island Guy. But at the end of the day, you know who's always waiting for me? Smirnoff.

Civil Hypocrisy
Confession: I’m supposed to be out promoting my new LGBT themed romance, Shape of Love. Instead, I’m caught in a tightening vase of anger because of Republicans. Not all of them, there are some Conservatives who I respect and often talk to in the hopes of understanding their positions. The Republicans I’m talking about are the Trump-bots that will parrot whatever lie the Orange one yells or Tweets. The leaders of the party that is supposed to be for families and the working class, ha! Those leaders released a new ad suggesting that all liberals are unhinged, but clearly, they haven’t taken a look at their own party.
