A golden undoing
crispy air, golden apples, pears and vines — one bite, beginning is end. I got inspired to many haikus for the Falling Leaves challenge, but not all of them was about the falling leaves, as the prompt requested. Some were simply inspired by the season. Anyway, I still wanted to share them.

Splendor of another kind
death takes everything in the end, but how splendid the decay can be. I'm not quite sure how much it fits into the prompt, which it to capture the fleeting beauty of the autumn leaves. But autumn leaves aren't only bright and colorful, they are also dull, dark and rotting from the moment they leave the branches. For me, there's two sides of the season (as it is to life) — and they are equally beautiful.

feuille-morte
slow rot drifts down, as memories of summer fade lurid wistfulness ~~~ I thought the ghastly history of the word "lurid" makes it a fitting adjective for this haiku and also a great word for describing the color of the dying leaves. The word comes from the Latin 'luridus', which was used in the 17th century to describe the pale yellowish color of diseased or bruised skin.

Ephemeral
crimson wonderland laced with gold and emerald— just for an instant. ~~ 🍂 I got some time off in the forest at work because the forester was 2 hours late. So I sat down under an oak tree and wrote at least a dozen of haikus for this challenge. I finally got myself a waterproof notebook, so I can write down my ideas.
