Battlefield Hip Hop
It is half past dusk and a caravan of cars are headed to a special location. This caravan of cars and trucks are filled with a bunch of young men and women who love Hip Hop. They are all on their way to watch a battle, a freestyle rap battle. In the first car leading the group was a rapper who went by the name “Slice”. While Slice was in the first car with his friends, a rapper who went by the name “One Shot” was in the car behind him with his friends. One Shot and Slice were preparing to battle each other in a freestyle battle. In the eight cars behind the first two were friends and admirers of Slice and One Shot who were coming to watch them battle.

Freddy vs Jason: the most LIT movie I’ve ever seen in theaters
So it’s a mid-August night in the summer of 2003. My mom, her boyfriend, my sisters and me are all on our way to the only two movie theaters they have in Chapel Hill where we live at. Our plan is to see the long awaited and highly anticipated film Bad Boys 2. We went to the first theater, The Timberline, and it was all sold out. We went to second theater, The Plaza, and it was also sold out there as well. We were disappointed because we were really looking forward to seeing the movie, but since we couldn’t my mom and her boyfriend Leroy suggested we might as well just see something else instead. Now I forget who exactly said something first, but what I do remember is my sister and Leroy suggesting that we see the also long awaited and highly anticipated slasher crossover film Freddy vs Jason.

Hip Hop Video Games: the Def Jam series.
In March of 2003 I was hanging out with my god brothers on a weekend night. While we were watching tv, most likely B.E.T. at the time this video game trailer came up on a commercial break to whatever we were watching and it just struck me because I had never seen anything like it. The preview was filled with a bunch of big name Hip Hop artist including: DMX, Method Man, Redman, WC, Scarface, Ludacris and Joe Buddens and they were all fighting against each other in a backdrop that was reminiscent of a mix between a WWE video game and an installment of Mortal Kombat.

Hip Hop Cinema
Born in the ghetto and expanded upon on every main stage that the world has to offer. Hip Hop has done a great job at being versatile since it was first conceived 50 years ago. Hip Hop’s versatility has been so impactful that it has managed to conquer the main stage of cinema just as much as it has music. Hip Hop’s presence in film has been undeniably remarkable. Since the 80’s rappers have made huge splashes in the world of film as actors, writers, directors and even producers. As entrepreneurs who have conquered the film world, Hip Hop artist have also been able to start their own film production companies and garner award recognition given by even the Oscars. Here are some of the biggest films inspired by Hip Hop:

Happy Birthday Hip Hop . Top Story - August 2023.
I absolutely cannot believe that today, August 11th 2023 is the 50th birthday of Hip Hop culture. This means so much to me because Hip Hop plays such an important and positive role in my life. 30 of Hip Hop’s 50 years on this earth have been part of my very foundation and upbringing, so I have to write a letter expressing my love for Hip Hop, the positive impact that it has made and pay tribute to the Hip Hop artists who have inspired me.

My First Songs
I will never forget the first time I ever went to a studio and recorded my first songs ever. It was in the summer of 2013, a summer I always refer to as the “Summer of California Love”. In July I went to California to visit my family and during my second week there my first cousin, Floyd gave me the privilege of stepping in his recording studio so I could put my talent on wax.

Paul Reubens: An Adventure of Friendship
It’s been over a week since it was first announced that Paul Reubens passed away after a long and quiet battle with cancer. Like the rest of the world I too was heartbroken at the news of his death and as a lifelong fan I wanted to take a minute to celebrate his life.
