Mermaid on a Motorcycle
Have you ever seen a mermaid ride a motorcycle? – Neither did I. Until yesterday, that is. You will, of course, reasonably object that this is all made up, just a stupid joke. Because no one can ride a motorcycle with one limb, pardon me one tail, as the motorcycle requires the balance of two equally weighted legs. And I would have fully agreed with you. Again, only before yesterday, when I saw it with my own eyes. But let me tell you everything from the beginning.

Quiet Quitting: If Sisyphus Had Gen-Z Attitude & Outlook on Life
I’ve been doing this for three thousand years. At least that's what I estimate, more or less. Can’t tell more precisely because I lost count of days and nights. With this type of a job, you would too, anyone would. Yes, I have to roll this huge rock up not only during the day but at night, too. Up and down, up and down. I roll it up, almost all the way to the top, it rolls down under its weight and I have to start over.

A Future Train Ride
I’m riding a train somewhere in Europe, reading a book but mostly looking around to admire the scenery. My son is sitting next to me on the right, scrolling through the vast collection of music on his phone. Sometimes he’d just stick one of his earphones into my ear, “Listen to this one.”

The End of The Tour (2015). Top Story - January 2025.
I have a confession to make: I was yesterday years old when I discovered David Foster Wallace and his significance as a contemporary American writer. I'll turn 55 in a couple of weeks. I know, it's embarrassing. My only excuse is that I lived half of my life in the Soviet and post-Soviet cultures.

My Best Stories in Vocal Communities
I really liked Rachel Deeming's idea of writing stories for each Vocal Community in 2025. I've written for many of them, but it would be a great personal challenge to see if I can write a new story for each of the existing communities in 2025. This story will be an index for all my community stories.

A Star Is Being Born
A nebula fall? No, a universe melting a brand new bright star. When I saw this picture by Hubble Space Telescope, I thought it was a whole galaxy in the shape of a waterfall. But no, it's a capture of the birth of just one star. Looks like a surrealist painting.

Happy New Year!
Time glass galaxy Is flipping, starting a new Happy New Year, all! I am having a great time catching up with my relatives in Germany, which made me think about how important time with the loved ones is for our renewal and recharging. Wishing everyone a great new year!
