Rock and Roll With a Symphonic Beat
British rock group Electric Light Orchestra or ELO comes from Birmingham, England. Actually, if you just hear their name, they sound like a symphonic orchestra. During their popularity in the years between 1971 and 1986, they came out with 11 studio albums and added on one more in 2001. This band came together as the creation of Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne, whose dream was to add classical overtones to rock and pop songs. Wood departed the band after they came out with their debut album, but Lynne stayed and wrote and arranged all of their original compositions and also produced all of their albums.

Halloween Pranks and Candy Apples The traditional colors of Halloween are orange and black and these also come from the pagan celebrations of the autumn and harvest. The orange color symbolizes the color of crops and changing leaves. As for black, it symbolizes the “death” of summer and the changing of the seasons. Other colors have been added to Halloween decorations and they include yellow, purple and green.

Halloween Candy Through the Years
The one thing that children look forward to the most is getting bagfuls of candy on Halloween. Both children and adults love to get dressed up in all kinds of costumes. My childhood favorite was a witch costume and that being the 1960s the popular costumes for children came packaged with plastic masks. As much as my mother wished I wanted to be a princess or a fairy year after year it was being a witch for me.

In Remembrance of Mom
Both my parents my mom Elvira and my dad Eriks Raisters had had their lives interrupted by WW II. They escaped from their homeland Latvia, lived in DP or Displaced Person's Camps in Germany, got married there and finally sailed into New York Harbor in 1951 to start an entirely new life. It was a happy time when I came along on 1957 and a very sad time when just ten short years later mom and I lost dad in 1967.

Strangest Looking Creatures
Mammals Naked Mole-Rat The naked mole-rat is an animal that has no fur and is nearly blind. These animals live underground in colonies similar to insects. Their nearest relatives are porcupines, chinchillas, and guinea pigs. Not completely bald they have about 100 fine hairs on their bodies acting like whiskers to help them get around. The hairs found between their toes help the naked mole rats to move soil between them while they are digging tunnels. They are among the longest living of all rodents and can live for nearly 30 years and have an amazing resistance to cancer.
