Name That Dish
Cobb Salad The owner of the Brown Derby, a Hollywood, California restaurant, Bob Cobb created the delicious Cobb Salad in the 1930s. Looking for a midnight snack he took what was available in the kitchen like hard-boiled eggs, salad greens, chicken breast, avocado, chopped bacon, tomatoes, and Roquefort cheese. He tossed it all together added salt and pepper and made a vinaigrette out of olive oil, red vinegar, lemon juice, garlic, and Worcestershire sauce.

Beefy Good Dishes
Europe Sweden Skomakariada literally means "shoemaker's box" and it is the name of this traditional dish because the slices of beef look like the soles of a shoe. Each slice of beef is topped with gravy and served on a bed of mashed potatoes. The beef can also be topped with diced bacon and chopped leek.

Walk Among the Ghosts of the Past
Cahawba, Alabama has an interesting history. It was the capital of the state of Alabama from 1820 to 1825 until it flooded so many times residents had to flee. Then for many years, Cahawba remained a hub of cotton distribution. The town was the home of the Confederate Castle Morgan prison during the Civil War where thousands of Union soldiers were imprisoned between 1863 and 1865 when another flood cleared the town. By the 1900s most of the buildings were demolished.

Living In Majestic Palaces
Europe France One of the famous palaces in the world is the Palace of Versailles. If you can imagine finding yourself among such luxury where once Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette lived. Walking the corridors of history could seem to be an impossible dream. Yet, now a luxury boutique hotel Airelles Chateau de Versailles, Le Grand Controle has opened its door within the palace walls. Visitors have a choice of rooms, suites and a luxurious apartment. Hotel guests can also get access to the palace after hours and can sign up for behind-the-scenes tours.

Great Songs by Gene Pitney
Gene Pitney an American singer, songwriter, musician and sound engineer came into this world on February 17. 1940 in Hartford, Connecticut. He had two older and two younger siblings and the family lived in Rockville, Connecticut. At Rockville High School he formed his first band Gene & the Genials. He was crazy about doo-wop and sang with a group called The Embers.

Not Smelling Like a Rose
Many will remember the Disney cartoon "Bambi" in it Bambie the deer meets up with a skunk. Bambi was trying to learn what everything around him was called. He learned that the colorful blooms he saw were flowers and when a skunk emerged from the flowers he looked at it and said, "Flower." Unfortunately, it was not a flower and if it had been it would have been a very smelly flower but the skunk accepted being called Flower. So remembering that from my childhood I decided to write about both the smelliest flowers and the smelliest animals in the world in one article.

Eating On the Run
Europe The Netherlands Stamppot means mashed pot and is a traditional Dutch dish. It consists of mashed potatoes and one or several vegetables like kale, spinach, endive, turnip, or sauerkraut. The dish is called hutspot if the potatoes are mashed with onions and carrots. It is served with smoked sausage or cooked meat on the side.
