The Dominie, the Lesson, the Mirror, and the Expander
"It wasn’t my fault. You can't fire me.", she yelled. "Ma'am you need to get your things and leave the property.", a security guard threatened. She had been set up. The anger almost broke her. Almost. She grabbed her things and headed to the garage where her car was parked on level 3. As she made her way to the elevator she felt the eyes of her coworker scrutinizing her. Seven years for this. "You almost got away with it didn't you." She didn't even know the guy, but some how he felt comfortable enough to talk about her and pass judgment. She just looked past him and pushed by. Instead of breaking her a miraculous thing began to take place. She got in her car and powered it on. The radio came on, an Eminem song played. She heard the familiar lyrics, "I am whatever you say I am, if I wasn't than why would I say I am.... I don't know I guess it's just the way I am". She listened, mouthing the words from memory. She'd teach them a lesson. The best lesson they ever would have the chance to experience.

Maiden Ra
Ra created a birth unlike any. As he passed through the underworld he met three sisters, the maizey sisters. The father sent the girls out each day to cultivate and then sell maize. The father sold the best of his harvest. He saved the next best for himself. The unsellable were given to the girls and deducted from the wages. The girls stole to avoid being charged. The father suspecting someone was stealing put molded rotten corn in the pile. The girls ate this corn. All three died from food poisoning.

Fugue State
I awoke in the middle of a crystal, silent, mirror-like lake. Stillness was all around. None of the tree's moved and none of the grass shook. I floated in the middle of the lake in a small rowboat. The boat was white, but most of the paint was cracking and chipped. As I moved inside the boat, small ripples moved out in waves over the surface of the lake. I yelled out, but I didn't even hear my yell. Just quiet and stillness. No one else seemed to be here. I wasn't sure where here was, but I seemed to be alone. I started to think about my friend. As I did I saw an outline of her in the boat. I started talking to her, but as I stopped thinking about her, her image disappeared. I thought of my sister and there she was in the boat. When I stopped, she stopped being. I tried to yell again. Again no voice was heard. There were two oars with the boat. I grab the oars and start to row. I row and row. I seemed to go right through the vegetation, but without disruption. The plants didn't move, the boat never stopped. I put my hand in the water. I felt no essence of wetness. I felt no idea of temperature. To me, from my perspective, it looked like my hand was underwater. The appearance was the only recognizable reaction. Fear took hold. Do I get out of the boat or stay in the boat. Not knowing where or what this is I decide staying in the boat is safer. I would wait for someone.

Lost In The Frame
The ship stood tall and proud. Dark wood with a blue belly and a red stripe along the mid-line on the sides. It was as good as any ship I had heard of from my novels. Some of the crew was already on board. Must be early risers on this crew. I could see one captain already at his post. He held the metal wheel tightly in his hands, preparing for the journey. He spun it, probably getting the kinks out. Where was Beale? This trip would be impossible without him. He had all the information about where we were headed. He usually runs late, but always boards the ship just in time. I think he had said we were headed to the Caribbean, but I wasn't sure. I'd never been, but I think it's nice.

LEGO Immersion
My mom passed away in April. After Mom died we all were struggling and looking for distractions. My husband hurled himself into a hobby. He had dabbled in LEGO, but after her death his interest exploded. He was the Kool-Aid Man crashing into the scene. I suspect it gave a space to direct his focus in his down time.

Finding Behavioral Residue
Everything is the same, yet nothing is the same. By appearances it felt like home, but the heart of it is missing. The light from the sun floods in, in search of it, but unable to find it, so light is everywhere. It seems extra bright as if trying to compensate for the loss even it knows exists. Light touches Everything in the office. The settled dust sparkles as glitter giving it a heavenly feel. Maybe it once was.
