short story
Celestial Crypt
The northern sky was gone, it had been weeks since we had last saw the stars peering in the night sky. We sat here and wondered, what where they hiding? What were they masking from civilization that was so extramental from hiding the true fear? So many people didn’t even notice. That just shows how weak we were already faltering. It showed how oblivious we already were to the impeding destruction that lingered in our own night sky.

Big Life
Malik thought his world was huge. He lived in an apartment complex outside of Houston Tx., he walked his dogs after work and made dinner and showered and went to work in the morning at St. Nicholas the hospital he was employed at as a security guard. Malik picked the hospital because he wanted to get into medicine, probably as a nurse. He wasn’t too sure about paying for med school. Malik thought St. Nicholas was a strange name for a hospital at first, St. Nicholas is the patron saint of sailors, merchants, archers, repentant thieves, children, brewers, pawnbrokers and students. Maybe not, there are a lot of lost souls in many hospitals around the world.

The Smokepole
The SMOKEPOLE The man stood there and thought about his place in society. He was Generation X. Everyone had cellphones, microwave ovens and iPads. They demanded instantaneous results and he hated this. People no longer appreciated things as so much could be had with so little effort. In times, not so long ago, a person’s efforts more or less determined their net worth. Real work was required for real results. Not so now, people didn’t even use cash anymore. Everything was plastic, or wire transfer, or God forbid Bitcoin. What the hell was that? And if there weren’t enough funds in the banks you could just borrow it.

The Chicken Farmer
THE CHICKEN FARMER The moon was full, the month was February, and the air frigid. The farmer was awakened by poultry distress cries and cackles. He knew instantly a fox or coyote was in the hen house. Snow and ice had blocked the door open, and he hadn’t had time to get it fixed. An unspoken voice screamed in his brain that he had to protect his birds from this demon.

The Seal That Was Broken
This is part of a collaboration on how the Plastic Crisis affects our oceans. Each story is unique, a cross of fiction and reality that highlights and brings awareness to a very real problem. I encourage you to read these pieces, think about them, and get involved. Take a look at the previous story by Courtney Capone, The Struggling Sea Turtle.

Earthquakes hit Mexico — What you have to do and what you have to avoid
As some may already know, Mexico was struck by a 7 magnitude earthquake a couple of months ago and it was horrible. Fortunately, I live in the State of Mexico and we only got scared, nothing bad happened to us and to our loved ones. Even though the epicenter was a state away, the house rocked pretty significantly. It did give us a scare and the lights were on and off. Imagine being in the place of interest!

The CX, and the Atlantis 1
Universal Love, the CX, and the Atlantis 1 Jordan Wrobel. 11/17/2021. The creation of our Universe is as unknown to me as everybody else… But I will say that it’s good we are not alone. Time is at the very least, mysterious. What we see now is no more nor less strange and mysterious than what we saw in the past. Is it not any less powerful or beautiful. It is twisted and untwisted with the light and the dark. It is strangely beautiful with its power. The ability to live happily is the idea that concerns the narrator in this story.

How Did I Become a Lady
I love trees. Planting them, taking care of them, watching them grow. It all started at the beginning of November 2021. I was browsing on the Internet and was thinking about a birthday present for a friend. She is part Scottish, she recently moved but I know that she didn’t want any “stuff”. I was trying to come up with a present that is meaningful and fun. I came upon a place that was saying that you can plant a tree in Scotland. It was part of a reforestation effort.
