An Ugly Duckling
- Well, aunty, one day I will fly to America! -Who? You? Where? -To the United States of America! - Ah, poor you! They say to dream is for free.... Unfortunately, you are an ugly duckling in our family and I’m not sure it’s even possible. No one of our relatives ever tried to go abroad. And why?

Chapter 12 Big Shorty noticed the cell phone that he had gotten through a trade with a crackhead. It was still on his dresser, in the same spot next to the bags he had used to bag up his product. He stared at the phone and the baggies on his dresser, he wasn't about to let the lightest remembrance of hustling perish. He noticed that he was smelling like his grandpa's expensive cologne. He liked the smell and thought it accentuated his neatly ironed khakis and crisp white cotton shirt.

Chapter 13 The smell of fried chicken came from Jello's townhouse as Jello sniffed the air. "I came to get that tatted on my back", Big Shorty said as he pointed at Dinky-G's back. "Where did you find Big Shorty?", asked Jello. He looked over to Big Shorty and continued, "I thought you was an old fashioned house arrest." They all stepped inside Jello's house and heard Jay-Z's "Big Pimpin" blaring out over the sound system. Nina, Jello's in-house coochie, was frying chicken and puffing a blunt. She was wearing nothing but panties and a t-shirt. Jello walked up to Nina, who was standing over the stove, and sucked on her finger like it was a rib tip.

Wake Up!
READ THE PROLOGUE & CH. ONE FOR FREE PROLOGUE December 9, 2006 I should be sleeping, but I can’t. My emotions are All. Over. The. Place. I want to cry, scream, and disappear all at once. One minute I’m in tears, and the next I’m so angry that all I want to do is hit someone. In the last twenty-four hours, my life, along with that of my son, Tyler, has been completely upended. My husband, Grey, admitted he’s been cheating on me, and the bastard had the audacity to tell me it’s my fault. Can you believe that?! Yeah, like I held a gun to his head and made him put his penis where it has no business being! Exactly how does that work? He even claimed he was going to “get rid of me” as soon as I get my degree.

Chapter 11 Big Shorty went to his room to grab enough clothes for the weekend from his closet. He placed the gear neatly into his overnight bag, then shuffled through a few c.d.'s that were on his night stand. After finding what he wanted and stowing them in his overnight bag, he went and stood next to the front door. Waiting for his grandfather to come. "The first thing I want to do is get something to eat", said his grandpa while he was digging in his pockets for his keys. "I'm starved", his grandpa declared as he put a hand on Big Shorty's back, directing him down the stairs. "We'll stop by Maxwell's to get a few polishes", he added.

Chapter 10 For the third time in five minutes, a sexy older girl named Lucinda grimaced at Big Shorty. She wore a black halter top and was leaning on the seat in front of hers. Big Shorty could see the outline of her hard nipples as the bumpy ride made her breasts sway from side to side. She had sepia eyes and smooth chocolate skin. He also noticed that he could smell her perfume that was strong, yet subtle, even though she sat in the seat across from his. Big Shorty's hormones began to rage as everything about her turned him on.

Chapter 8 His grandpa hopped into his Lincoln and hurried to the school. After he arrived, the principle informed him of Big Shorty's conduct in class. The end result was that Big Shorty was to be expelled from all of Chicago's public schools. The consequences of this information was an embarrassing scene in the principle's office. "Tyrone! What are we going to do about you?" His grandpa's voice was loud and he pronounced every syllable. "You need your butt tore up, no public school is going to accept you!", his grandpa yelled angerily.

Chapter 7 Victoria wrenched a big belt from her purse as she screamed, "You're about to get it now!" Big Shorty submerged backwards, escaping a lick from the belt Victoria had. He shook his head "No", stuttering uncontrollably and shouted, "N-n-n-o-o-o! Grandma, help me!" His grandma came between them saying, "Victoria! Ain't no whooping going on in this house! I do the whooping here!", his grandma demanded. His grandma used her authority to remove the belt from Victoria's possession.

a freedom all my own
I hadn’t meant to. I really hadn’t wanted to do a lot of things in my life. I hadn’t wanted to spend every weekend of my childhood water skiing. I hadn’t wanted to play Monopoly as my family’s only source of bonding (the game often did more harm than good). I hadn’t wanted to date my first girlfriend, she had this odd cheese like smell. I hadn’t wanted a dog for my 10th birthday, I had asked very clearly for a hairless cat. I hadn’t wanted to study theology in college and I most certainly hadn’t ever had an ounce of desire in my heart to become a minister.
