Information, Escape and Sarcasm in Small Doses
After cutting the cable at our house, (the satellite in our case) and with nothing else to do during a global pandemic, I spent more time than I’d like to admit exploring the vast world of streaming options quite literally at our fingertips. And while I like to stay informed and learn new things, life has been so heavy and serious as of late. I want to enjoy a little lighthearted escape now and then. I’m sure you do as well. That’s why I’m here to talk about the rise of my new love; the docu-reality comedy genre and its cousin, the pop-culture short form video.

Don't worry I'll get to the film recommendations in a jiffy after giving you a bit of a backstory. Who doesn't love a good ol' backstory? I'm very grateful for the choices that I have made in my life over the past several months as they sprung me into the deep world of filmmaking. I became a hermit which was perfect cause it was cold outside -- and I live in Canada. And no we don't all look like lumberjacks. Since my unemployment (Courtesy of Covid-19) I have finally devoted my time and energy to studying film and acting, in doing so broadened my cinematic knowledge and opened different doors, and honestly, I can never look cinema the same way again. Gone are the days when I would put on a movie just for fun or just to have it as background noise. I've come to truly appreciate the art and its everlasting bittersweet residues.

Loved Demon Slayer? Then You'll Love These Too.
Kimetsu no Yaiba or loosely translated and more well known as Demon Slayer, written and illustrated by Koyoharu and Gotouge an action-packed fantasy manga with an anime release in 2019 that garnered popularity for its characters, unique story and it’s incredibly beautiful animation and illustration. With the release of the movie earlier this year, continuing on the story from where the first season of the anime left off.

Nostalgic
The wonders that were found in the wardrobe must now be hard to replace. From my sources I see many grownups look far and wide to replace what was once childhood wonder. Now their thoughts brimming with the horror seen on nightly news, or lived during some great sorrow. Most give up the idea that there will ever again be the feeling of joy brought by watching Harry Potter get his first letter to Hogwarts. As someone who loves magic and the wonders of "myth" it's obvious that many stopped looking for elves after the last lord of the rings movie. Yes, by adulthood most people seem to of given up watching movies that come from their own hearts interest. Eventually just giving in to watching whatever show on Tv or in theater that is most highly recommended by critics. No part of me is willing to say that this is the wrong way to find what show will steal your time but I think there might be a better way.
