Why Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is a particularly important movie.
It is the fervent opinion of this writer that 2019 saw one of (if not) the most important cinematic event in recent history. Avengers: Endgame was the culmination of a solid decade’s worth of storytelling and world-building that has never been seen before in the history of motion pictures. Its defining moments being an epic battle that was filled with the characters that cinemagoers like myself had spent almost eleven years building an emotional attachment to. It was a journey that we had all been on since the humble beginnings of the 2008 film the incredible Hulk and slowly became not so much a series of films but an institution in its own right. So, it is perfectly understandable that the millions of fans across the world would be left in somewhat of a vacuum after Endgame closed the lid on an era of Marvel history that we all know as the Infinity Saga. And in this post-stark, post-infinity stones, post-Avengers world, we all stand hand in hand looking to the vast unknown that is Marvel's phase four.

How Reading Over 100 Books a Year Changed Me
Since coming back on Goodreads a few years ago, I’ve probally read more books in a few years than I did in my whole lifetime. I always try to read at least one book a week weather it’s paperback, e-book, audiobook or online. I have over 2000 books on my kindle, yet, according to my kindle app, I have only read 132. This count does not include books I have not finished. Nor does it include the books I have physical copies off.

Why We Collect: 10 Reasons Behind the Collectibles Hype
If you identify more as an investor than a collector, you may think of "collectibles" first and foremost as assets to be flipped for short-term profits or held for years or decades for long-term capital gains.

Accurate Representation is Important
I was thrilled when Disney released the trailer for "Encanto". Not just for their more recent branch of more diverse movies and the representation of different cultures, or the fact that the movie seems like a blast with great animation and music, but for the simple fact that Mirabel, the movie's main character, wears glasses.

Dune
Dune has seen a few adaptations on the big and small screen as of now as it's source content has had a profound impact on science fiction stories ever since it's publication. It was one of the first of it's kind to introduce themes of religion and human control over ecology into the narrative, as at that time, authors thought that in futuristic all those ideals would be gone. As for this iteration, Denis Villeneuve's adaptation nails it's source content beautifully even while only telling half the story. It speaks volumes about Villeneuve as a director as well as the entire cast and crew. There is plenty of passion and understanding behind this adaptation. To those that don't have any kind of knowledge of the source content, the opening thirty minutes may be a hard watch as a lot of world building is being thrown hastily at you, but through the wonderful talents of Villeneuve and the entire cast you are completely immersed in this beautiful tale.

Why Do People Still Buy Pokémon Cards and Other Collectibles?
Recently, there has been a surge in Pokémon card collecting, as well as waves of nostalgia. I know it feels like I'm late to discuss the trend, but I really wrote about it months ago, just not very effective. So here I am, attempting to reformulate those ideas.

We Went To Our First Comic Con Since COVID. This Is What It Was Like
One of the things that we have missed the most during the lockdown is attending conventions. The first comic con I ever attended was New York Comic Con in 2013, so it was fitting that my first one since COVID would be NYCC 2021. Culture Slate's Clarice Taylor and myself swung by the convention along a cross country road trip from Boston to Los Angeles. This is what the experience was like.

Ranking all 20 'The Royal Diaries' Books
Since the dawn of time, well, 2018, when I started reading and ranking children's books (see here, here, and here), people have been clamouring for a Royal Diaries ranking. After enough peer pressure, it's finally time to put aside my anti-monarchist beliefs and give the people what they want.

Dave Chappelle, Hannah Gadsby, and the Offended Masses
Well, I honestly thought that the whole controversy over Dave Chappelle's new Netflix special, The Closer, would have blown over by now. But, it seems that it's still front and center in the media, and getting spicier. Why? Probably because the media likes it that way.

Movie Review: 'South of Heaven' Starring Jason Sudeikis
Annie (Evangeline Lilly) is dying. Annie has lung cancer and has been given between 9 and 12 months before her life ends. The diagnosis is recent enough that she got it just before her long term fiancé, 12 years to be precise, Jimmy Ray (Jason Sudeikis) was to go in front of a parole board. Jimmy has spent almost the entirety of their engagement behind bars. It might seem convenient when he tells of Annie’s prognosis in front of the parole board but what you come to find out about Jimmy Ray is that bad luck and timing are a big part of his life.
