A Touching Gift
Glen had always been a bit of a ladies' man. Ever since his first girlfriend, he'd been a firm believer in the "love um and leave um" school of thought. In high school, it caused some trouble. Glen was the handsome football player who went through women like water, and it seemed he was always in the middle of some drama. In a way, Glen guessed he fed off it, loving the attention he got from being at the center of such controversy. As he got older, Glen found similar conquests out in the real world. The car lot he worked at held a bevy of pretty clients, pretty secretaries, and lovely bosses who became far less authoritarian once the bedroom door was shut.

The Rain Man
Her mother told her to lock all the doors, close all the curtains, go to the basement, and stay quiet. Lisa thought it was because of the tornado but her mother was more afraid of the man in the night than any storm. As the rain poured down, the thunder made its big booming presence known. Lisa sat in the small corner of the dimly lit basement mindlessly scrolling through her phone, cursing the god's every time the internet went out; causing her Instagram feed to refresh. About an hour or so later, Lisa got bored, put down her phone picked up her book, and continued reading where she had left off in the storybook oh so long ago. Just as she seemed to be drifting off into the fantasy world of fictional characters and insane missions, she heard the back door open with that familiar "click" of the lock. Slowly, lifting her gaze up and away from the book, she furrowed her brow as her mind processed what she had heard, with a release of breath she hadn't realized she was holding, she called out for her mother but stopped mid-way through as she remembered her mother said to stay quiet and as she listened to the footsteps a sudden and terrifying realization hit her; that wasn't her mother walking and she had just made a noise.

Cross Connection
Not many people give much thought to the setup of a large public aquarium. The patrons would possibly be bored to death to hear the science behind setting up such a large exhibit of living creatures. Fewer still would be aware of how much work goes into it and how many experts are involved.

Priest Reese: Vampire Hunter
We drove up the snowy, winding road towards the cozy A-frame cabin. My German Shepherd Helsing was absently gnawing on something in the passenger seat but I was too busy keeping the truck from sliding off the road to give it much attention. We went left at the fork in the road knowing full well that the cabin was to the right and drove a little ways down so we'd be out of sight. It wasn't until I had stopped at a pass overlooking the cabin that I noticed what Helsing had between his teeth and paws. It was one of my wooden stakes which he loved to whittle down to a nub. He let a low, whimpering growl as I took it away from him.

Journal of a Mad Writer
Travis pulled up in front of the old cabin, ready to prepare everything for the coming weekend. It would be nice to have the rental property again. It had been closed for the last eight months as the police combed over every square foot for evidence. Travis grimaced as he thought of it, cursing his luck at being out all that cash. He'd had a funny feeling about that writer type, but he'd needed the money. It had been a slow season, and he needed to make it up before the snows came. Who could have known that the snow would come so early that year?

A Cthulu-ish Christmas
We drove up the snowy winding road towards the cozy A-frame cabin. The car had been on fire for the past half hour but none of us seemed to notice. Our bright smiles were only slightly clouded by the chemical smoke rolling from the engine compartment. All of our 863 teeth were shining and freshly sharpened as we sang Christmas carols and laughed about the wonderful times we were all going to have together on this, our first-ever Christmas vacation.
