The Witching Hour
A tremendous squall woke me that night, a gust of wind so strong that it pummeled the oak trees outside the house, causing the branches to scrape with incessant clamor against my bedroom window. A hazy glimpse at the clock told me that it was three o'clock in the morning, mere hours past the time I had stumbled upstairs and plunged into the pleasant comfort of sleep.

The time I caught a ghost on camera
The summer before my eleventh birthday was the first time I encountered a ghost. Well, sort of. I was on a camping trip with my Girl Scout troop on Johnson’s Island, a tiny patch of land in Lake Erie. During the Civil War, the North built a prison camp for captured Confederate officers on Johnson’s Island, and a Confederate cemetery remains there today. Next to the graveyard is a cabin, and in the cabin is where I was staying with a dozen other ten-year-olds on an overnight trip. Unfortunately, it drizzled throughout our first day, so we were bored. Some girls cut through the graveyard to a walking trail. Suddenly, two girls came running from the woods, screaming that they had seen a ghost—a young soldier in the blue jacket worn by Union troops who once patrolled the island prison.

Specter In The Woods
It was a dark and stormy night and Jack was driving down a winding two lane highway. It was raining lightly just as it had been for days. The windshield wipers made a barely audible squeak with each stroke across the windshield of Jack's old Chevy pickup truck. Jack's emotions were running high as he reflected on the heated argument he had just had with his wife that prompted him to leave. Jack had a couple drinks about an hour beforehand and was starting to feel it. The irony is that the main reason for the argument was Jack's drinking problem. Jack was following the rules of the road but his heightened emotion and slight inebriation made this a dangerous ride for Jack. Jack had his phone charging through the trucks old 12 volt cigarette lighter and sitting in the middle of the bench seat. Suddenly Jack's phone chimed and without thinking Jack took one hand off the wheel and picked up the phone. It was a message from his wife Lisa. It started with "I'm sorry..." Jack didn't even get to finish reading the message before he felt something familiar and terrifying. Jack immediately recognized the feeling of loss of control and knew he was hydroplaning. Jack was seized with fear and was desperately wrestling with the steering wheel trying to regain control of the truck. Suddenly the truck came off its wheels on one side and flipped. Jack didn't know what was happening but he did know he was being thrown around the cab of the truck. Jack was sure bones were being broken and he could see alot of blood. The truck had rolled onto it's roof and slid across the pavement and through an old guardrail. The truck rolled a couple of times down the steep embankment before coming to rest upside down in the now roaring creek. Jack knew he was hurt bad but if he didn't escape the truck he would surely drown within minutes. Jack knew he couldn't push the door open the water pressure would be too great. Jack decided to roll down his window. Water rushed in like a waterfall nearly washing Jack to the other side of the cab. Jack used anything he could grip, including, first the steering wheel, and then the window frame, to brace against and pushed himself out. Jack scrambled to shore where he collapsed barely able to breathe and quickly losing blood. Jack knew he was in trouble and he needed to stem the flow of blood. There was too much to know exactly where it was coming from, but he knew it was his left arm and forehead. Jack fought through the pain and reached into his pocket. Jack pulled out a pocket knife and with excruciating pain cut a long strip from his soaked t-shirt. Jack found a stick and rigged up a tourniquet as best he could near the top of his left arm. The exertion from making the tourniquet caused Jack to pass out in his weakened state. Jack regained consciousness some time later. Jack knew it hadn't been too long because it was still very dark. Suddenly he noticed something...or rather someone. A dark silhouette of a woman was standing at his feet. Her outline was clear she was a slim woman with dark hair. Jack was paralyzed with fear, his eyes wide with astonishment. Jack used his shirt to wipe the blood from his brow that was partially obstructing his view. Jack told himself silently that this figure must be a hallucination due to blood loss. Suddenly a rush of wind that seemed to come from everywhere hit Jack and he was struck with a pungent odor he immediately recognized as decaying flesh.

A True Ghost Story, Yes Really
This story hasn't got a ghost of a chance that you will believe it, but I know it to be true and that's all the matters. Had anybody asked me, prior to the following events, if I believed in ghosts I would have replied I believed in the possibility of ghosts. However, I was more than a little cynical. Had I ever truly seen a real ghost? No, absolutely not. All that changed in the Autumn of 2018.

The Loud Bang
My oldest son and I were watching tv one night late 2008. He was 9 years old. The house was quiet this night and my other 3 children were already asleep. I want to say it was around 9 pm, but it could have been a little later. I'm unsure exactly what time but I can not ever forget the extremely loud Bang we heard suddenly,.. sounding as if it came from the living room, at the end of the hallway. I knew that nobody was out there and the front door was for certain locked. I told my son he should wait in the room for me to investigate what I could, but he popped up beside me at the end of the Hall. Just before entering the living area, we both could already see the large bookshelf, just in front of us, had tipped forward. It was against the wall, in place as it always was, but the picture frames on top lay slanted forward. The books were leaning against the edges of the shelves and the open glass doors were still in position, it looked as if they had been opened and then pulled down on, to bring the top away from the wall, causing all the books to spill forward and come loose from their places, before slamming back into the wall, making the very loud bang. The frog knick-knacks & figurines and photos in frames (of my mother in laws) that had been on top, all had tipped forward. Some things had even fallen to the floor. I stopped short in shock and dismay, taking all this in as I looked around. I was speechless & without any sort of an explanation to my young child. I felt very helpless actually and as if I was being watched. I played it off as if I wasn't affected in a negative way and explained to him, that I didn't have a logical explanation. The next morning, I cleaned it up and talked to my sons grandmother who was also asleep when it happened and she didn't hear it but said she thought one of the kids had tried to crawl up the shelves and tipped it. My other children were 5, 3 and 1. She said she was glad nobody was squished mockingly, as If I let them run a muck. ;) Then she was surprised when I said, they were all in bed and we heard it slam back into the wall from the bedroom and found it looking as if it was pulled forward and the let go of! Very Scary, but what can you do when you own the house and there's nowhere to move! God Bless her, Rip Beth! 4 yrs later from this, We Sadly lost her tragically and unexpectedly in the middle of the night Mid July 2012 I write these stories in dedication to her and The home she welcomed me as family to 1998. I currently Live further away and my children still talk about when we lived at that house I have occasional flashbacks but mostly have blocked a lot out. I am very grateful for breaking free and learning how to cleanse my self of negative energy and how to keep my home blessed and free of all dark energy. Life is truly comfortable now. I sleep really good and I have so much less stress. Always Praying for anyone who has any similar experiences and hoping they will find their way through the craziness of not knowing what is going on exactly.

The Creatures We Live Amongst
I've always wondered about the existence of magical creatures. Fairies, mermaids, unicorns, the basic shit. What I did NOT expect, is to find that we do live amongst fantasy creatures, just not the ones you'd expect. They call themselves The Vyxjids, and they are the most harmless beings ever, unless you cross their territory. And this is the story of how I did just that, and still, somehow (I truly don't know) managed to escape their power.

I've Been Here Before
1. I've been here before. This quiet little corner of this quiet little holler in the hills of Black Mountain. I came out tonight, the same as I always do. A whippoorwhill sang, a chorus of crickets as his backup. They were anyway. They've long gone quiet.

Why Our Interest In The Supernatural Prevails In The Face Of Its' Darkness?
Believe, or don't believe, that is usually the question around water coolers, between late-night colleagues, during pillow talk, or simply when our mind wanders. As small children, our parents and loved ones teach us not to believe in monsters or the "boogieman" and yet we find our paths drawn back to those horror stories. Once we are opened up to the realm of possibilities, then we will pretty much believe in anything. So, whether you may believe in the monsters and ghosts that others believe in, or you hide your head in doubt, there's a world of infinite possibilities out there. Some of those possibilities should, however, be left alone.
