Istabraq’s Nikah: A Love Written by Allah
Istabraq had always believed in the power of dua. Since she was young, she had prayed for a husband who would be her partner in faith, someone who would cherish her, respect her, and walk with her on the path of righteousness.
Now, at twenty-three, she watched as her friends got married one by one. Invitations came, celebrations were held, and each time she attended a wedding, her heart whispered, “When will it be my turn, Ya Allah?”
But she reminded herself that Allah’s timing was perfect.
A Proposal with Barakah
One evening, after Maghrib prayer, Istabraq’s mother entered her room with a soft smile.
“My dear,” she said, sitting beside her on the bed. “We have received a proposal.”
Istabraq’s heart fluttered. She had received proposals before, but none had felt right.
“This one is different,” her mother continued. “His name is Yusuf. He is a teacher at the madrasa, well-mannered, and deeply committed to his deen. His family knows ours, and they speak highly of him.”
Istabraq swallowed. A teacher at the madrasa? Someone who dedicated his life to knowledge and faith? Could this be the person she had been waiting for?
Her father added, “We don’t want to rush you. Take your time, make istikhara, and we will arrange a meeting.”
That night, Istabraq fell into sujood, pouring her heart out to Allah. “Ya Allah, if this is good for my deen, my life, and my Hereafter, make it easy for me.”
The Meeting
A few days later, Yusuf and his family arrived. The air was filled with the scent of cardamom tea and freshly baked sweets. Istabraq’s heart pounded as she sat in the sitting room, her hands folded in her lap.
When Yusuf entered, she noticed his calm demeanor. He greeted her father with warmth and respect, speaking in a soft but confident tone.
Then, when it was time, Istabraq was invited to join. She entered with grace, her eyes lowered.
Yusuf greeted her with a nod, his eyes filled with sincerity. After a moment of silence, he finally spoke.
“Istabraq,” he said, “I want to be honest with you. I am not a perfect man, but I strive to be better each day. I do not promise a life free of hardship, but I promise to fear Allah in my treatment of you.”
His words settled in her heart. He wasn’t trying to impress her with flowery speech—he was offering honesty and sincerity.
She smiled softly and replied, “Life is a test, but if we remind each other of Allah, then we will never be lost.”
Their conversation continued, discussing their values, dreams, and hopes for marriage. And by the end of it, Istabraq felt a sense of peace.
After another round of istikhara, her heart whispered yes.
The Nikah Day
The sun shone brightly on the day of Istabraq’s Nikah. Her home was decorated with white flowers, and the fragrance of oud filled the air.
She sat in her room, dressed in a beautiful cream-colored abaya, her heart racing. It was time.
Downstairs, Yusuf sat with her father and the imam. The moment was solemn yet beautiful.
“In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Yusuf, do you accept Istabraq as your wife, in accordance with the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger?”
With a steady voice, Yusuf replied, “I accept.”
Tears welled up in Istabraq’s eyes as the witnesses smiled.
The imam turned to Istabraq. “Do you accept Yusuf as your husband, in accordance with the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger?”
Istabraq took a deep breath. This was the moment she had prayed for.
“I accept.”
With those words, she was now a wife. The weight of the moment filled her chest, but it was a beautiful weight—the kind that came with responsibility, love, and new beginnings.
A Marriage Built on Faith
That evening, as she sat beside Yusuf for the first time as husband and wife, he turned to her with a gentle smile.
“Istabraq,” he said, “may Allah put barakah in our marriage and make us a means for each other’s Jannah.”
She smiled, feeling a warmth in her heart.
“Ameen.”
And in that moment, she knew—this was the love she had been waiting for. A love written by Allah.
