Meet in the rain
A small hill town like Manali, where a blanket of clouds falls on the earth every morning. An old heritage bungalow amidst the mountains, pine trees drenched in raindrops, and an enchanting humidity all around. Stories echo in the air here, and one of those stories was of Aarvi and Rahul.
Aarvi (heroine): 27-year-old freelance writer. Trying to overcome her broken past, but she has lost faith in love. She has come to live in her grandmother's old bungalow in search of writing a new book.
Rahul (hero): 30-year-old adventure-loving wildlife photographer. Has come to the city for an assignment and is trying to sort out his strained relationship with his father.
A moment soaked in the rain
It was the month of July in Manali. The clouds had started coming down from the sky and touching the valleys. Aarvi had settled in her grandmother's old bungalow, where the windows looked directly at the mountains. One day she went out to go through her old memories, when it started raining. She started walking fast, when her eyes fell on the deodar tree in front.
A boy was standing there with a camera, clicking something ignoring the raindrops. The next moment, he lost balance and collided straight with Aarvi.
“Hey! Can’t you walk carefully?” Aarvi said angrily.
“Sorry, but if you were so scared of getting drenched in the rain, why didn’t you bring an umbrella?” Rahul replied laughing.
Aarvi got irritated, but then he saw that Rahul had protected his bag from the rain. The books had not got wet.
“Thanks,” he said in a low voice.
Rahul smiled and left from there, but the echo of that moment remained in Aarvi’s heart.
Threads slowly connecting
Rahul was camping in the forest near the same bungalow. Over the next few days, their meetings increased. Sometimes at a tea stall, sometimes while trekking in the mountains. Rahul was interested in Aarvi’s books, and she found out that he was also a fan of her favourite book “Prem Aur Parvat”.
One day, when Aarvi was lost in her thoughts, Rahul wrote a funny comment in her diary –
“Your words are as beautiful as the rain, but sometimes as blurry as well.” Aarvi got angry, but deep inside she liked Rahul’s bluntness.
Incomplete questions, incomplete things
Aarvi found an old locket with Rahul one day, which had a picture of a girl in it. She asked Rahul about it, but he avoided it.
A few days later, Rahul left for the city without telling her. Aarvi found out that her assignment was over. She was alone once again. Her book was left incomplete, and so was her heart.
An incomplete diary, a hidden letter
After Rahul left, Aarvi found a letter in his diary. It read –
"Your every line taught me to listen to my heart... but I fear you won't be able to hold my broken pieces."
Aarvi understood that Rahul was also struggling with his past. She decided not to lose Rahul and followed him to the city.
Completing the incompleteness
Rahul confessed that the locket belonged to his dead sister, which was difficult for him to talk about.
"I didn't want you to be a part of my incomplete story," Rahul said.
"And I don't want you to be left out of my story," Aarvi replied.
Aarvi completed his book, titled – “Words are incomplete without you. When the rains came again
A year later, the same hill town. The same bungalow. Aarvi and Rahul were getting married. When the rains started, Rahul swung Aarvi in his arms and said laughingly –
“I have spent my whole life looking for the ‘perfect shot’, but you are my best click.”
Aarvi smiled, the raindrops touching their faces.
Some love stories are born in the rain… and some, become immortal forever in the rain.
