1 Your Mindset Matters

"Bodies and minds are typically very sturdy and tenacious," says Dr. Jacob Hascalovici, MD, PhD, Clearing Chief Medical Officer. But they can only take so much, and as we get older, it becomes more crucial to take care of them. Although "being healthy" is frequently depicted as a list of "don'ts," actually practicing good health is frequently a question of trading in less supporting, lifeless behaviors for ones that may be bringing you down. If any of the following habits apply to you and you're approaching your 60s or beyond, consider how you could gradually cut back on that habit and replace it with a healthier one.

2 Smoking

As per Dr. Hascalovici, "Smoking is fatal whether it's your preferred method of relaxation or just a deeply ingrained habit. It can make it more difficult for you to recover from any injuries, which only grows more difficult to deal with as you age, and it can increase your chance of developing numerous chronic disorders. The body begins to heal as soon as you stop or reduce smoking. What could you do instead to unwind?"

3 Sitting Around

According to Dr. Hascalovici, "Sitting is fatal! It can cause additional heart health issues, muscle loss, weaker bones, weight gain, and psychological disorders. It can also cause bone loss. Even while it seems that sitting about or being sedentary should be soothing, it actually causes us great harm. It weakens our bodies and robs us of our body's natural mood-enhancing hormones. Moving more is the solution. What may that seem like to you?"

4 Eating Excess Sugar

Explained by Dr. Hascalovici: "Sugar ranks very highly among the worst eating choices one may make. Sadly, it is nutritionally devoid despite being intriguing and gorgeous. Sugar over time can result in diabetes, lousy moods, and generally bad health. It is wise to appreciate things, but only in moderation, as a little goes a long way. Avoid drinking sugar-filled drinks, a lot of alcoholic beverages, and even some juices. What other drinks are available to you?"

5 Deep Squats

Orthopedic surgeon and retired doctor Barbara Bergin states, "An individual over 60 should refrain from deep squats. Our knees' surface cartilages and meniscus start to deteriorate and wear down as we get older. The demands that we could tolerate as children, they cannot handle now. Squatting puts a lot of strain on the knee and frequently leads to tears in the meniscus and shears of the articular cartilage on the outside of the knee. As a result, arthritis may start to develop. To the advantage of...orthopedic surgeons, the fitness industry is currently focused on getting individuals to squat in a variety of ways. The fitness business is currently focused on getting people to squat in a number of methods, which is advantageous to...orthopedic surgeons.Try something new after age 60, such as cycling, swimming, walking, or straight leg raises."
