The human body is a miracle

The human body is a miracle

By Hazel OnealPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

When we were young we were very energetic, running around all day, falling from a high place is not much of an injury, there is a wound healing fast, but slowly the body will have all kinds of problems, adolescence began myopia, face acne, after work back strain, insomnia ...... good thing is that the body's ability to repair is also very strong. After a few months of exercise, I did a physical fitness test at the gym and increased my overall score by one point. The trainer said that this is already very good, because for middle-aged people like me, the body is getting worse and worse, but my physique has improved - this statement really gives me mixed feelings.

American author Bill Bryson says that the human body is a miracle and that most of the most brilliant technology on the planet exists within us. While you are reading this article, your body is also busy: your lungs have to inhale and exhale 300 trillion billion oxygen molecules, and your eyelashes have to keep thousands of mites away from you. We blink 14,000 times a day, which equates to 23 minutes of our eyes being closed when we're awake.

Bryson said the Royal Society of Chemistry estimates that it costs less than 300,000 pounds to build a body; the 2012 U.S. science TV show "Nova" said the basic components of the human body are worth only $ 168. It is such a body that continues to work 24 hours a day for decades, and does not require regular maintenance or replacement of parts. It runs on water and some organic matter, reproduces itself with enthusiasm, tells jokes, feels emotions and appreciates sunsets. An orthopedic surgeon said, "Don't try to kill yourself by slitting your wrist. There are muscles, nerves and blood vessels in the wrist, but it can always turn. It's all encased in a fascial sheath, so it's hard to cut the artery. Many people who slit their wrists to kill themselves have failed."

And how do we celebrate this miracle? Most people celebrate by exercising at a minimum and eating at a maximum. Even though we are very unloving of our bodies, it is still sustaining and preserving our lives. Five out of six smokers don't get lung cancer. Most potential heart patients don't have heart attacks. One to five cells a day become cancerous, but the immune system will capture and destroy them. The only indication that something is wrong with our bodies is a little pain, a bout of indigestion, the occasional scrape or rash. There are more than 8,000 things that can kill us, and we will escape most of them, and we should really be thanking our bodies on the inside every day.

Bryson says our brains are the most amazing things in the universe; they are about 80 percent water and the rest fat and protein, yet they are able to think and create. Our bodies are amazing, so for most of your life you can pretend you're not going to die. But once you reach your 60s, it's still important to take care of your body. Compared to back pain and indigestion, baldness is hardly a worry. "We have more than 100,000 hair follicles on the top of our heads, and obviously it's not equal on different people's heads, with the average person losing 50 to 100 hairs a day. About 60 percent of men will be bald by age 50, and 20 percent will be bald by age 30. This is probably due to a hormone that becomes disrupted as we get older, ordering hair follicles to shut down. One known treatment for baldness is castration. Perhaps the most positive attitude toward hair loss is that if any part of the body must be given up after middle age, hair follicles may be the most appropriate choice. After all, no one has ever died of baldness."
