happiness
Happiness, defined; things that help you find happiness, keep it, and share it with others.
Step in to your Senses
The steps you take are so important, in life, in relationships, and those first wobbly steps you take as a child. Learning to walk was probably difficult but yet now you walk easily now and each step you take is as important as that first one. Each step you take now, putting one foot in front of the other will help you bring harmony to your body and mind. With each step you will be focused on those things around you. Fully absorbed in the world that surrounds you, noticing the little things that you take for granted every day. This is your time; this is your walk and this is where it begins.

Do better, you have to be better!
So my initial reaction to hearing that Vocal had a contest geared towards writing, I thought let me see what’s up. Sure enough, I submitted an entry prematurely not reading all the details in its entirety. Naturally it was rejected, and naturally I was frustrated. Then I thought, well maybe I need to dig a little bit deeper and really get an understanding of the contest rules. To my surprise it involved Tik-Tok! First thing that came to mind was, oh great I can’t escape social media if I wanted to. Reading a bit further the contest was about “For you” and highlighting someone who was not popular or viral. Immediately I was sold. Now was the tricky part, who to highlight? After browsing my “For you” section tirelessly (all of 30 seconds) I realized that the person I should highlight is myself. For me.

Learning My Self-worth and Finding my Happiness During a Quarantine
Life since March has not been easy on any of us and it hasn't gotten any easier and for most has gotten much worse. The world is spiraling and so is my mental state, my depression hit an all-time low. I lost a lot of people after graduating from High School and let me tell you, I was a shell of a human being in my teen years. Didn't acknowledge a single good thing about myself no matter how many times my friends tried to drill into my head that I was a good person but I had very low self-esteem. I truly believed I was an unattractive human being from a very young age. But, despite all that, this was not the lowest I've ever been even because I faced even more hardship then petty drama.

Which Road to Choose
Do you ever feel like your life isn’t going anywhere? Or that the choices you make are not the right ones? Well, isn’t that the way life is supposed to be? I mean we all have our problems, granted that some of us, me included, have more than others. But it is have we deal with those problem that, in the end, will define us as a person. Sometimes I feel like my life is going nowhere, nothing I do Turns out the way I had hoped, and it seems that no one really cares. Even though people tell me that it will be alright, that there is nothing to worry about, and that everything will work itself out, I still can’t help but wonder if it really will. At times I feel hopeless, at the end of my rope, like life has no meaning, and that there may be nothing left to live for. There are even times that I fell that I am a burden to everyone who knows me. My life story is not very interesting, but it has been simple for the most part. I had a fairly good childhood, and I have known some great friends along the way.

So safe inside
8/25/2020 So Safe Inside Written by Kathy Reed Nothing is safe unless you check it out When do you think that the best thing that you can do is to stop doing what you are doing? How many times have you decided that the path that you are on is too far from the path that you want to take? When you are reviewing your art do you think that the positive thoughts you had are what will win the race or are you sitting around, wondering if it matters at all. Before you began your artwork, I bet that fifteen minutes before was the safe as it is now. Without being said, you will gain from what you did, not the other way around.

Something inside of me...
Something inside of me says to stop moving forward. I can’t quite put my finger on what it is, and it probably has lots to do with the massive amounts of pressure the external world wants me to believe exists, so therefore I do. For isn’t it merely human to output our words, our thoughts, our feelings based on the inputs around us?

PURE JOY
We search for it. Suffer greatly at times to capture it. At the median of the the spectrum tilts hope mix with uncertainty - call it faith. I will not oversell or undersell honesty. It keeps me from faking the orgasmic bliss of total surrender. Nothing compares to the all encompassing warmth to be free, at that moment, of anything less than uphoria. Doubt, pain, anguish, lust, hardship, all that once written suffering: absent and without substance when pure joy is at the core of one's soul. I'm guilty of lying to myself about finding it. Wanting it so bad, you'll pull regret right out of the ashes and show it to be true. For it can be difficult to know when pure joy is enjoyed or it's a forced feeling one is supposed to feel. A lie told to us from what others see it to be for themselves. Therefore, what it's should be for ourselves.

The keys to my dream house
Ambling up the hill, surrounded by trees that are beginning to drop their red and orange leaves for the autumn, stepping over fallen twigs and mush. The smell of wet earth gliding up my nostrils and the scents of wet plants attaching to my walking boots. I climb over the small rocks, through the trees into a hidden spot. Only I and the person who built it, knows that this exists, this is my home, I have the keys to my dream home fully in my grasp.

2020ing
First story and ironically it’s about 2020. Who would’ve thought 2020 would be such a crazy year? I started out like most with hopes and a few dreams of which haven’t come true- Yet. I thought 2020 would be the year of flying cars or something spectacular, instead it brought a global virus and a lot more with it.

Bringing the city... home
Swallowed up by the color of enchantment, where life is but a dream lives a young woman coming to terms with her greatest manifestation to date; a room that captures every chapter of her existence and ever emotion to elevate her to where she wants to be. Surrounded by the individualized colors of God’s most peaceful skies sits a huge mural paying homage to the place that bred her New York. Grays, blues, whites, blacks, all offering a strong sense of what is to be desired amongst the cuties lights. The mural itself is larger than life and stepping into the room allows you to be frozen in time if what her home means to her. Backing out but never completely backing away from the mural sits her homage to the granter and alliance for her blessings, nature. It is completely natural to desire and for that in a corner adjacent to the mural is covered in greenery. Living breathing strings of pearl, peperomia hope, cherry blossoms, hanging proudly like a signal from the heavens of true life. Standing gleefully amongst the hanging display sits a money tree surrounded by the natural light of the sun that highlights not only it’s own but your everlasting urge for growth. Panning our just a tad bit from nature’s glory hangs floor length icicle curtain lights to illuminate how deeply light within the darkness is an essence of hope. Although the curtains are gathers into a singular corner it offers hope in a time where hope is as far away as her home in the city. Hanging in a corner parallel to that of the mural is an macrame swinging chair low enough where she’s is able to reach it at her height, but high enough so her feet never touch the ground as it embraces her in its comforts. Adding a touch of elegance right above that of the entrance is an aged New York City train map of the place she once called home that highlights a time of ease knowing just like the millions that live within its there are always destinations further beyond what the eye can see. Highlighted at the core of her surrounding a sign that reads “Bronx, NY” although it’s been years since she had been in her home. But the difference with this sign is the lettering itself uses a play on the MTA lettering that of the train lines. Switching the views yet again but always within view of the murals light is the most meaningful thing in the room, fire escape storage units that store her collection of funko pop because although she’s a woman a child she will always be at heart. Exit from the door way which you’ve came into a small hallways that houses the linen closet full of towels, cleaning cloths, an assortment of sheets, however tucked away is the blanket that are hand crocheted with care by a grandma who is yet to live in the exchange of what another state has to offer. A few step from that is a bathroom. Toilet and sink the basics, however the highlight of that room is the bathtub and shower. For the first time in her life the two things are separated. The shower looks like a room within the bathroom with a waterfall shower head. Of equal grandness is the bath tub that features identical setting to that of a hot tub. Staying within that room are heated floors offering solace on cold nights after a soak in the tub or the controlled comfort of the man made rain. Continuing inside the bathroom is a mirror that follows the color scheme of the rooms pass grays, and blacks. Walk through yet another door and exit into the open complex of the apartment’s offerings. The kitchen counter sits parallel to the stove refrigerator and additional cabinets. Moraccan tiles line the backsplash of both areas with blue, purple and white. The cabinets are white as well although outside of her original plan works perfectly with the purity of the tiles white. Stainless steel appliances glisten from the sun shining through the window that sit on the window accross from the kitchen. Next to the window is the gray couch, coffee table, and additional storage. Across from that is a tv nothing big but next to that sits a door leading to the balcony. On the balcony is additional storage. Lining the open entrance are sheer curtain with lights hanging above them so within the worlds darkness of night will still be light. These lights are special due to them being tiny jars that look majestic once the sun has fallen and the moon has taken its place.
