happiness
Happiness, defined; things that help you find happiness, keep it, and share it with others.
Earth: The Lost Community
I used to say that it's the world around me, but now I can't hide it anymore. It's me, all me. I remember being young, happy, carefree. Lost in the wonder of the world and people in it. I miss that feeling; you know the one. Wanderlust, awe, or should I say awestruck at the world around us. Even the smallest creation was amazing: a ladybug landing on your arm, how we would watch with amazement then giggle when it tippy toed across our skin. Then we would watch it fly away, and we would wave.

Keys to Happiness
I’m really trying to be happy these days and I realized that it’s not always simple. I’m working really hard and I’m starting to learn ways to be happier. Sometimes, you have to learn to enjoy little things and the present. Your life needs to be full of positivity, balance, and joy, and here are some keys to happiness. (I am not a psychologist or anything but these are keys I use in my life and they work for me and I hope they’ll work for you as well.)

Masking Happiness
We live in a world surrounded by people. We crave people's attention, their touch, even their words. Our dependence on having other people fill the void of what's missing inside of us has taken over. No longer do people fill comfortable enough to be on their own.

Stop and Smell the Roses
Nowadays, everyone is rushing from here to there, cell phones permanently attached to their hands, laptops and tablets not too far away, and everyone working and struggling to make the almighty dollar stretch as far as it can or in some cases, will go.

Are You Living Or Just Existing?
Are you living or simply existing? Is there a difference? If so, is it that big of a deal? Well, yes to both questions. We, as humans, have a bigger purpose than to pay bills and die. We are made for so much more. Our potential shouldn't be based on how much money we make, the type of vehicle we drive or where we vacation. Potential should be based on whether or not we fully lived our lives.

Tend to Your Heart, Water Your Happiness
Now that you're here, I want you to smile. Laugh even, if you'd like. Happiness is reactive. Once you simply think about being happy, reactors go off, and your whole mood, aura, and groove is thrown into this party of serotonin, dopamine, and endorphins. In this moment, I want you to realize that you have complete and absolute control of your happiness- regardless of the mishaps of today and yesterday. Life is hard, I know. And when you're continuously tripping over the weeds that grow beneath your feet, you succumb to the cyclical nature of pessimism. But, never underestimate the power of perseverance. The war against the wickedness that surrounds you is a far more pressing war to be fought than any another, and it is one you can thrive upon. You are a sphere of sunshine in the midst of decaying weeds.

Reflecting on Happiness
It’s a beautiful day in Des Moines. It’s not too hot, not too bright, just warm enough to wear a light dress with a light cardigan to cover my regrettably-tattooed shoulders. My roommate standing across the counter from me, is talking about unimportant stuff, cracking jokes… I sit, graciously receiving the humor and responding in kind, munching on peanut butter pita with a drizzle of honey and thoughtfully sipping on fresh mango lasse he had just made.

You Are Just Like the Sunrise
Once I had a friend tell me she had never woken up early solely to watch the sunrise. In all honesty, I was taken back by that. Waking up early with a warm cup of coffee, my cat nuzzled beside me, while breathing in the crisp morning air is one of my favorite little things about life. The sunrise just really is the cherry on top. from my backyard, there is a perfect time where the sunrise lets it glorious golden light beam through the tree leaves. That small gap of time is so magnificent. When I get to take in the sunrise, it always engages me in its beauty. Sunrises have always had a little place in my heart, and they always will. They symbolize birth and rebirth. Sunrises are filled will the joy of a new day we where blessed with.

Drop the Expectations, They're Dangerous
I've been meaning to write this article for a whileee now. Constantly when something came up, I reflected on the topic of expectations and remembered I had a draft of this article saved on my Vocal page. So this is me getting around to it at 1:00 AM on a breezy Monday night.

One Day at a Time
Dear present self, This is your reminder that everything is going to be okay. You're going to get through this just like you did last time. Trust me, I know exactly what you're feeling right now. Now, I'm only going to say this to you once. Get up, tape up that heart of yours (I'll even provide you with the tape), pull your big girl pants on, and let's get through this. You're a warrior. And let me tell you why.

How Philosophy Can Make You Happy
If you are at all interested in philosophy or mindful thinking you will most likely have come across this man. Born on March 31, 1596, and living till the age of 53, René Descartes managed to achieve several things throughout what nowadays would be called a short lifetime. He was a French mathematician, scientist, and philosopher who made great strides in the field. As far as what those strides were, and how it can help us, let me go on to explain.
