Don’t Feed Wild Marine Mammals
In a previous article, I discussed how one California woman attempted to stop a group of beach-goers from harassing a colony of wild sea lions. Although I did talk about how it's illegal to play with, touch, or even feed a wild marine mammal, I did not mention how it can inflict potential harm. Word of caution, what I am about to describe may be a little upsetting to some readers, but at the same time, it’s critical to be very cautious when watching marine mammals out in the wild.

Mental Health and Pet Joy
Approximately one in five US adults suffer from some sort of mental disorder affecting the everyday life they have. Most often we are left wondering why we have no help and ask ourselves why we were made this way. But without thinking pets offer stability and a meaning to our life. We care and love for these animals so much, that the love we offer gets returned without judgement, that we often don’t receive from family or friends.

My First Kitten Love
A few months ago I moved in with my boyfriend, Nate, his family and his roommate who had just recently moved in as well as a impulse decision in spite of my dad's wishes. Shortly after moving, I slowly started to realize why he didn't want me to move in with my boyfriend so soon. We had only been together for four short months prior to me moving in. After living with each other for just a month we started getting on each other's nerves. With us going to the same school for the same career and neither of us having a job, we were together 24/7 and you could tell we were on each other's last nerve. We would always argue over dumb stuff, like who was suppose to do our laundry or who was going to make dinner. then, after two months of job searching for us both, he finally got a call back. The next week he started working at the Dollar General down the road from our house, walking distance, which was perfect because we didn't have a car... still don't.

The Hebrew Congregation of Somers Hold Bark Mitzvah to Bless the Companionship of Dogs
On Sunday, the Hebrew Congregation of Somers held its third annual Bark Mitzvah to bless and honor the animals its members hold so dear. Attended by about 30 pets and their owners, the serene setting next to Shenorock Lake mirrored the relaxed demeanor of the bipeds. But the dogs were another matter at the outset of this day. A lot of barking and sniping at each other, having a leg over Mother’s Day may have been a little unsettling. But a calm definitely emerged at a distinct moment of the proceedings.

So you want to become a dog-walker? Of course you do, dogs are great! What could be better than walking a dog, getting to play with them and snuggling for a little bit then dropping them back home ? It’s kinda like being an aunt to an adorable nephew... you get to be there for the cute stuff and then hand him off to his “owner” (your sister) for the less cute stuff like diaper changes or temper tantrums. Dog-walking and petsitting is a great way to earn extra money, stay active and meet new animals! (And people too I guess)

I’m sorry because I honestly just didn't get it, but I am now grown-up enough to admit that a dog really can change your life. My hubby and kids are furious, of course, because, if I said, "Look, we are not getting a dog and that's final," once, I said it a thousand times throughout their childhood, and I can appreciate their frustration, in that now they're all grown up and flying the nest and Roxy the dog moves in. Mum, who didn't like dogs, is now hopelessly smitten.

The Southern Resident Orcas Need Our Help
For 17 days, a 20-year-old adult female orca named Tahlequah, also known as J35, carried her dead newborn calf in a tragic effort to continue caring for the calf despite it having to have died just shortly after birth. Around the same time, her cousin, J50, also known as Scarlet, is grossly underweight as the result of possible malnutrition from the lack of the orca's primary food source, chinook salmon. Currently, as of now, there are ongoing efforts to rescue Scarlet from becoming another casualty by using boats to deliver her live salmon through a test feeder while collecting breath samples to monitor her health. Also, researchers also plan to use the live fish to provide medication to the sickly three-year-old orca even though there is no guarantee that she will eat live fish, but at the same time, the fact that scientists are making an effort to feed a wild orca is very unprecedented.
