Seven deadly virtues
Not only is Conclave a superbly entertaining movie to watch, it also provides a timely example of how to make the most of subplot and byplay. I can’t begin to explain exactly how this was achieved but am delighted to know that writer Peter Straughan has been nominated for the best adaption Oscar. The story is based on the book by Robert Harris, which I have not read.

Paintress paint thyself
There is an old party game where guests are challenged to name five women artists off the top of their head. Try it, without checking, and you will know what I mean. Did your list include Freda Kahlo? Now try restricting your answers to 17th, 18th or even 19th centuries. It's a long time since I have heard anyone say "None of the great artists were women" but this phrase does spring to mind.

Not a countryside scene
Don't be deceived. The above photograph tells a lie, tells many lies, and is full of deceit, full of falsehoods. Which is exactly why I have chosen it for this article, and for my entry to the Vocal Through the Lens Challenge.

Left handed snail. Top Story - January 2025.
This may be a first. The first time that a new work of art has been publicly unveiled and announced to the Vocal Art Community. Please tell me if it is not, and other new works have been formally announced in this forum. Either way, I am delighted to present to you for the first time: Left-handed snail, 2025, freehand digital drawing. I drew this work yesterday evening, January 16, 2025. It is all my own work.

Time to take on Kindle?
There are many things that I could wish the Vocal platform would do for us. Things like providing an easy-to-use backup of content, a csv download of stats, and new and better ways of organising stories into subject indexes without the need for endless copying and pasting. How feasible any of these things are, or what the folks at Vocal Media might think, I have no way of knowing.

Soul not goal
My goal for 2025? My creative project, my vision, my new year resolution? Ha ha! You gotta be kidding. I don't do goals, I don't do master plans, I don't do new year resolutions and I sure as hell don't do project management 'shopping' lists.

Wordle wonder
Why has this article about an online puzzle been put in the Writers community? Good question. I put the story here in Writers to make a point: playing this game can help a writer's word choice. Really? Only one way to find out if this is true and that is to give it a go.
