How To live a Cancer-free life
The Cancer Series(art-6)
We have seen a lot of advancements in the oncology sector and it's all thanks to the people who have invested their backs and souls into it.
Based on the industrial impact on our lives today, it's like 85% of the population is prone to cancer in one way or the other. About one of every three people will develop a certain kind of malignancy during his or her lifetime.
Just as the saying goes, prevention is better than cure and in the case of cancer, prevention is by far the best option. I can’t give you a guarantee of sitting assured that you are out of cancer’s reach. But, I can assure you that you can reduce the risk of getting cancer if you choose to live a healthy lifestyle. In this particular one, am going to stress the word “healthy”
A healthy lifestyle should be your first step in your walk to cancer freedom. I know that the environment around us makes living a healthy lifestyle more of a myth, but the healthier practices you engage in, the better.
I know I already mentioned the tremendous advancements in the oncology sector but you can’t 100% rely on these inventions for several reasons. These reasons include,
1. Some cancer treatment options are damn expensive.
2. Most of the treatment methods have side effects. Although these side effects may be minor, they can turn into serious illnesses. FYI, some side effects may be permanent.
3. Most treatments do not 100% cure cancer but help insure more years ahead for the patients.
With that in mind, it’s like the best option you are left with is prevention. With the following tips, you can reduce your chances of falling victim to cancer.
1. AVOID TOBACCO
90% of lung cancer cases are due to smoking.
Tobacco is one of the leading causes of cancer worldwide. Don’t let yourself be fooled by the advertisements of filtered and treated cigarettes. Your risk of getting cancer increases with several cigarettes you smoke no matter the type, brand, or kind. Cigarettes contain more than 7000 chemicals of which many are carcinogens. When you smoke, these chemicals are induced into the lungs and diffuse into the body with the blood and lymph systems inclusive. When these chemicals diffuse into the body, they alter the orderly cell division process
When the process of cell division is altered, abnormal cells multiply uncontrollably hence forming cancerous tumors. Remember DNA is the genesis of life, anything that interferes with your DNA could be called a fatal condition in general. Chemicals found in cigarettes are very capable of altering your DNA.
Either by chewing, smoking, or passive smoking, tobacco is very dangerous. Putting lung cancer aside, tobacco has also been reported for causing other cancers like leukemia, head and neck cancer, digestive tract cancer, etc
2. ENSURE A GOOD DIET
A good diet won’t only help you reduce the risk of getting cancer, but will also help you live a good life in general.
Processed meat could be a cancer magnet. Foods like bacon, hot dogs, and sausages highly render you prone to cancer. Meanwhile, foods like
1. broccoli
2. brussel sprout
3. cabbage
4. kale
5. watercress
6. ginger
7. curcumin
8. tea is very crucial in killing cancer cells.
In general, a Mediterranean diet is the best option. The lesser calories you take in, the better.
3. WORK OUT DAILY
Medically, you are advised to have at least 150 minutes of exercise each week. 30 minutes daily would be the best pick.
Exercise helps you to easily eliminate worn-out cells. When these worn-out cells aren’t eliminated when they should, you increase the risk of getting cancer.
4. VISIT YOUR DOCTOR REGULARLY
Through Low-dose computed tomography and mammograms, early and developing breast tumors can be diagnosed.
5. REDUCE EXPOSURE TO CHEMICALS
Chemicals like asbestos, radon, and benzene can easily cause cancer. Also home and farm use equipment like plastics and pesticides can cause cancer.
7. VACCINATION
Get as many useful vaccinations as you can get. Hepatitis B can easily result in liver cancer. Good news!!! Hepatitis B is immunizable, cervical cancer is immunizable.
8. ONE BOTTLE OF ALCOHOL A DAY
If you drink alcohol, limit yourself to one bottle a day. If you can, completely stop drinking.
A $1 tip means life to me. Thank you for fueling my dreams.
