Maintaining your sense of self
In times of uncertainty...
Wake Up. Drink water. Journal. Do some Yoga. Repeat (the next day).
That is how I choose to start my mornings ever since this forsaken new way of life happend. I personally chose to be ignorant to the news and anything regarding the current state of the world becuase it has left me feeling more hyper-aware and anxious than normal. So far it has been working for me.
I am naturally a homebody. However, being forced to stay in my residence is its own form of the twilight zone. With uncertainty lurking at the click of a button. I remain conscious in my thought process and move forward unbothered. As best I can, of course.
A few things I recommend to keep you grounded in your daily life are as follows:
-Adopt a morning routine
-Adopt an evening routine
-Maintain a balanced diet
-Move your body daily
- Practice proper skincare
-Practice daily gratitude
By adopting healthy habits you can gain more clarity in your life.
With a morning routine, you are laying the foundation of your day due to the fact that you took time for yourself to clear your brain of any mental junk and focus on the necessary things. There is a reason why I practice the same morning routine each day. It is a time for myself where I can gather my thoughts and wake up with intention.

I am grateful every morning I have the ability to open my eyes and have another day on this earth. I drink water to flush out any impurities and to gradually wake my body up. Through journaling; prompts or not it allows me to channel my energy constructively. I write whatever I am feeling or yearning to do. This way, I am able to think clearly throughout my day. Lastly, I do some yoga stretches to gently wake my body up and center my being. Yoga helps me connect with the earth and my environment around me. For me personally, I feel liberated.
I found an evening routine that worked for me when I moved into my current apartment. I tried to make sure that I consumed a healthy dinner if I was feeling lazy during the day. I would take an evening stroll around my complex and take a hot bath with Epsom salts, essential oils, music or a movie, and my diffuser on. That is key for me in having a relaxing night. After my bath, I put on my pajamas and will either watch a show until I fall asleep or put on binaural beats until I fall asleep.
Maintaing a balanced diet is essential to every area of your life. I am a firm believer that you are what you eat. If you consume whole foods, free of chemicals and practice portion control or listen to your body in general then you will see the results from that.
Moving your body daily is another thing that is just as essential to maintaining your sense of self. If you eat a balanced diet but don't move your body, you will see some results however you wouldn't maximize your potential. Listen to your body. If you move it and treat it with kindness it will reward you in many ways.
Treating your body with kindness is important and proper skincare routine. Your skin is the largest organ. It protects us from the outside world and tells us what is going on internally. Nourish your body from the inside out and pay attention to your skin.
Practising daily gratitude is essential to maintaining your sense of self in times of uncertainty. When you establish a routine, you are making yourself a priority. You matter. Therefore, it is important that you treat your body kindly from the inside out. It will boost your mental health.
