October's Magickal Milkweed Memo: Beyond the Obvious Fluff
October 20 Monday Morning Huddle

Milkweed in October is such a beautiful sight. Open pods displaying long, white, silky hairs; other nearby pods are in mid transition, offering a sneak-a-peak at the inside floss, also known as coma. Asclepias syriaca's (Common Milkweed) brown seeds are a delight to behold when the plant's silky parachute releases them into the air, creating a magickal effect via wind-born encouragement.
Good morning, everyone. My name is Marilyn, and it's time for another edition of my Monday Morning Huddle.
Lately, I've been longing to see milkweed. Fond childhood memories take me back to fun filled afternoons playing with my sisters among fields of the beautiful fluffy stuff many children liken to magick, dreams, and everything wide-eyed wonder related.
Yesterday, my wish arrived. While out for a short nature walk, Common Milkweed called to me in a local community garden. It was a lovely sixty-six degrees yesterday, here in New York, and an absolutely lovely October afternoon. The wind was blowing, and the vibe felt like a mix between Summer and Fall, with that extra certain something spiritual feeling in the air.
Surreal, dreamy, soul electrifying- all words capturing an October afternoon nature encounter.
Milkweed called to me, so with phone in hand, I photographed her silkiness while receiving one specific spiritual message.
"Karmic debt, paid in full. You are about to turn a corner."
Then, the flashback moment: I quickly recalled receiving the same message days before during a longing for milkweed occurrence.
While previously I assumed the message was only personally related, the sudden repeat felt like a greater calling, prompting today's Monday Morning Huddle topic. Today's story title came to me during early morning meditation at 7 am this morning: October's Magickal Milkweed Memo: Beyond the Obvious Fluff.
Before diving further, let's address karmic debt.
What is karmic debt? 🤔
Karma basics lend their ideology to cause and effect. Likened to the phrase, "What goes around, comes around," karma speaks to one's actions, intentions, and thoughts, influencing their future. Applied to mental, physical, and verbal deeds, karma involves personal choice or free will. These principles are believed to shape one's life- this life, lives yet to come, linking to past lives.
Poor choices, whether intentional or unintentional, choices that cause pain and suffering to others, point to karmic debt, which equals payment due involving personal experience of similar circumstances, whether knowingly or unknowingly inflicted on individuals.
Signs of karmic debt
- Out of nowhere challenges, that feel determined to bring one down- persistent, stubborn, challenges, one cannot dodge, no matter how much personal effort
- Recurring negative patterns, ones that feel predesigned, cyclical in nature, perhaps feeling like a personal curse
- Heavy-duty relationships, ones that are intense and feel fated or unavoidable
Spiritually, we all have karmic debt, and numerology indicates that specific double-digit numbers found in the core numbers of a person's astrological chart, Life Path, Expression, Soul Urge, Personality, and Birth Day, carry great significance.
13,14,16,& 19 are karmic debt numbers indicating baggage carried from a previous life, baggage that needs addressing in this lifetime.
Keep in mind that karmic debt is never about punishment; it's about learning important life lessons and evolving spirit. To do better, be better, become a better version of self.
October's Magickal Milkweed Memo: Beyond the Obvious Fluff
"Karmic debt, paid in full; you are about to turn a corner."
Sit with this for a moment, perhaps a while, and think, really think about how karma might be influencing your life.
To help start the process, I will provide a personal example.
Procrastination has been an issue for me for a long time due to particular inner fears. Due to my struggles, I have often not followed through on certain matters, specifically opportunities, which have not only been a letdown personally but also a disappointment to others. Unintentionally disappointing, potentially hurting other people was never my goal, but this is not about intent or lack thereof; it's about how my choices affected others.
Personally, "Karmic debt, paid in full," speaks to me, addressing these inner fears with a closer lens after repeated incidents where I've been overlooked, left out, not given a self-perceived fair shot, or something of similar energy has occurred.
Repeating patterns, out of nowhere, seemingly "bad luck," when analyzed closer, revealed something not so much profound as it was educational.
I needed to confront my fears and change my approach. If not, then the cycle would, without a doubt, keep circling back, causing more needless pain and suffering to myself and those directly and indirectly involved.
Milkweed Spiritual Meaning and Magickal Properties
Spiritually defined milkweed has several meanings: hope, survival, healing, transformation, prophecy, protection, wish-granting, and imagination.
My favorite spiritual aspect speaks to protection. While cardiac glycosides and galitoxin contribute to milkweed's toxicity, it is necessary for frequenting monarchs. These butterflies ingest the toxins while feeding, which in turn deters the otherwise awaiting prey from harming them.
If applied to oneself, this natural occurrence warrants significant human reflection.
A question for you: 💜
What toxic thoughts, ideas, or actions are you feeding on that, inadvertently, might be harming others?
Specifically, is there a particular stance you are taking in your life, which you think is protecting you, while causing someone else or others unintentional harm?
These questions pose a deeper dive into nature versus nurture- the concept of inherited traits (nature) as opposed to environmental influences (nurture).
"Karmic debt, paid in full, you're about to turn a corner," aligns beautifully with October milkweed, as the plant relates to the moon. The moon illuminates all that is hidden, shining light on change and an enlightened path ahead.
October, long associated with harvest and cycles ending, and soon to be Scorpio season, adds the ethereal to milkweed's fluffy appeal. Scorpio season asks everyone to confront the unseen, and as the astrological shift occurs this week, fading October encourages closing outdated thoughts, patterns, and actions, birthing new cycles.
Thinking outside myself, I genuinely feel karmic debts resolving and spiritual evolvement across the collective.
A little magick for you 🪄
You might be familiar with this: If you catch a floating milkweed seed, make a wish, and release it, then your wish will come true.
Find that magick, either in real-time or returning to your inner child, where magick never dies.
Children are our wide-eyed dreamers who believe things into existence. These inherent gifts never cease to amaze me, and I will never understand why society nurtures an alter mindset. AGAIN- nature/nurture.
Reconnect with your inner child, make a milkweed wish, and watch the magick unfold, like a late warm October breeze. Feeling stuck? Just believe, believe that you are indeed about to turn a corner.
More magick ✨
Milkweed’s genus, Asclepias, is named after the Greek God Asclepius, the god of healing.
Ideas for the magickally inclined, but keep in mind milkweed's toxicity, especially for sensitive people:
- Milkweed fluff makes ideal stuffing for dream pillows. Combined with herbs and crystals, these pillows make nice gifts and are said to promote lucid dreaming.
- Planting milkweed in yards attracts monarchs, and the butterfly's transformational energy is associated with family, home, and parenthood.
- Sachets stuffed with milkweed are said to offer protection when carried, and are sometimes given as gifts to people with ailing health or those awaiting surgery.
- Fae magick- milkweed offerings to fae are said to delight them, making them agreeable to blessings.
...
Karmic debt is never about punishment; it's spiritual lessons awaiting the human experience.
When specific actions, thoughts, and words are recognized the repeating patterns seemingly negatively impacting one's life, then and only then, can one address the issues. These resolved issues mark a turning point and a potential for a brighter future.
Unknowingly and knowingly, we all amass karmic debt, and sometimes the debt trails lifetimes.
It's never too late, however, to get down to the nitty-gritty. All it takes is reflection with an altered perspective, and a commitment to change.
And if an October milkweed happens to inspire the process, then that's magick for the taking.
Find the fluff and see all that is beyond the obvious, silken-seeded plant.
Have a great week, and thanks for reading❣
PS: I didn't post the Monday Morning Huddle last week due to a knee appointment. Finally, I have a surgery date- October 28 for a medial meniscus tear with a flipped fragment. ( I only recently learned about the flipped fragment.)

What a beautiful and fascinating way to look at the world! Your description of the milkweed's silky floss and that "Summer and Fall" vibe is just beautiful. It's really cool how you connected your personal moment with the milkweed to a deeper message about karmic debt and a new corner you're turning. My granny was a "Mountain Doctor" or "Granny Witch", she used milk weed to remove warts.
I love the photo. 😍 🌾I do like that phrase, 'Beyond the obvious fluff' and that you also included it in the title. -The karmic debt sound too familiar. I feel the need to hide behind my hands lol. 🌾Phew 'its never about punishment' that line is relieving. -I had a long crying session earlier. The magical milkweed memo. Your personal example. I resonate with. It's almost scary. 🌾I could've read this yesterday, and might've touched something. But today, especially today. I felt seen when reading this. -It's so cool that this plant relates to the moon. 🌾 I will believe that I am indeed about to turn a corner. 🙏🏾 - oh and thankfully. The questions you asked. I am all clear on them. 🌾I love the pillow stuffing idea. - wishing your surgery goes well and that you will recover without any issues. Sending hugs 🤗❤️🖤
Well-wrought! We must, however, beware that we do not make debts out of mere contingencies, or we may find that we beset ourselves with trials only to experience the sense of relief. A quick turn at the right moment can sometimes absolve us of such undue responsibilities and spare others pain in the process. Another interesting thing about the Monarch is how far and wide it travels. One would not expect such a delicate thing to have so hearty and determined a nature!
This was such a beautiful and soul-nourishing read, Marilyn 🌿
Milkweed, I never stopped and observed them. Thanks for this idea. I live in NYS , October this year 2025 was certainly an Indian Summer. Will we karmic debt of such nice weather in the winter months? I certainly hope not. Procrastination is certainly a mortal enemy but maybe our brain are fried and we need to rest our mind until a good idea motivate us to solve our karmic debt.
Omggg finallyyyyyy, you gave a date. One more week to go. Sending you lots of love and hugs ❤️ The butterflies, doesn't the toxins harm them if they ingest it? "What toxic thoughts, ideas, or actions are you feeding on, that inadvertently, might be harming others? Specifically, is there a particular stance you are taking in your life, which you think is protecting you, while causing someone else or others unintentional harm?" I think this would be my stance to put myself first and not be afraid to say no to others. I'm sometimes too direct and harsh while standing up for myself. I gotta learn to do it politely 😅
Good luck on your impending surgery and prayers to you. I remember milkweed and making wishes on the fluff pieces when blown away. Good job and once again a lot to think about.
