Yoga: A Life of Uncertainty
Seeking a mindful life... I never thought that yoga would be the answer to my problems. Growing up I had a great life. I performed in many school productions, I had my parents supporting me every step of the way and we would do everything together. I exceeded through school gaining 8 GCSE's, 3 BTEC's, and 1 AS level. I thought that I was doing everything I could to push myself. But clearly, that was not enough. In fact, it was far from enough.

First Year as a Big Yoga Teacher
I’d like to start by saying it hasn’t been easy. I could just focus on the positive, but I believe there is always a dark to the lightness, a Yin to the Yang. There is balance, and I don’t believe in “just being positive” all the time. I did that for a long time (in my twenties) and it didn’t serve me in the end. There is always a time to step back and look at the big picture, some of it’s good and some of it’s not so good. I feel it’s important to honor the times when we aren’t feeling so positive.

The Not-so Pretty Side Of Yoga
I've noticed how people on the cover of yoga magazines always look so pretty. They're dressed to the nines in the latest yoga gear, hair perfectly placed around their bursting smiles. The cover model has perfected whichever advanced yoga posture they are showcasing that month. Now don't get me wrong, I respect these magazines (and to be honest, I am one of those yogis that can contort her body into most of those poses). I was born with ligaments that bend like Gumby, and because of the anatomy of my body, this is possible, not because I have some special gift or I'm by any means more "enlightened" than the less bendy. As I glance over these magazines from time to time, I begin to daydream on what it would look like to show the not so pretty side of yoga? Those days when we are not at our best but we show up to the mat and practice regardless. I will say the further down the yogic path I go the more layers are revealed, and some of my most gifted teachers have reaffirmed to me that this path is not always pretty.

Core Power Yoga
As I have previously mentioned, one of my 2018 goals is to attend yoga classes more frequently. When my colleague told me Core Power Yoga was offering a week free for new customers, it was a no-brainer to sign up. I normally don't write reviews, but I decided to give it a shot. To anyone who lives in a city of any sort, you understand how popular yoga studios have become. What's not popular is the price tag that comes with a membership. My main goal with this review is to give you some insight as to how Core Power Yoga's pricing structure correlates to the quality of their classes.

Why Becoming a Yoga Nut Is One of the Best Things I've Ever Done
When did my yoga journey/addiction start? I'll set the scene: Christmas holidays, 2013. Bored, I was browsing magazines on my iPad when my eyes fell upon an edition of a yoga publication. The yogi on the cover was demonstrating a forearm stand variation (pinchamayurasana) and reminded me of my childhood fascination with contortionists. I thought, "I want to do that." Three words on the magazine's cover stood out to me: strength, balance, flexibility. Always open to new experiences, I resolved to give yoga a go.

The 5 Best Yoga Poses for Back Stiffness
Yoga is a weird and wonderful thing. It’s good for the body, it’s good for the mind, it’s exhilarating but also relaxing. You can do it in aerial hammocks, on mats, on the beach, in the park, in your bedroom. It helps with recovery from injury like no other exercise, and it is great for any stiff or tight bits you may have.

How Yoga and Mediation Changed my Life
Mindfulness Meditation and Yoga are fast-growing trends in Western culture today, but these ancient practices date as far back as 200-400 BC, originating in India. There are five ancient branches of Yoga: Hatha, (Pronounced Ha-Ta), Bhakti, Karma, Raja, and Jnana. Mindfulness meditation ties in with the Yogic belief of being "present," and being focused on the now, rather than the past or the future. The practice of breathing and going with the "flow" of Yoga may seem mundane, but the effects of the breath tied in with movement of the body instills a calmness, and provides strength and oxygen to the muscles while holding many forms. The beauty of the many branches is that one can find a practice that suits them, whether at home in front of the TV or balancing on your hands in a Bikram studio... There is truly something for everyone. Most practices include moments or even large sections of time in meditation, deep breathing powerfully while attempting to calm and clear the mind.
